Short and Sweet game thats actually canon to the lore. cool LoL lore story on Nunu & Willump and other Freljordian Champions. The atmosphere is really amazing as you get to explore Freljord and listen to the nice music it has to offer. Speaking of music, you also get to play songs with Nunu's flute that can harness the power of the Svellsongur. Playing music is often used as a means to solve puzzles and also in nice rest areas like campsites to lighten the mood. If you're looking for an amazing story you unfortunately won't find it here, but it does well for how short it's able to tell it. And as previously mentioned this is confirmed to be canon so this is a nice short story surrounding Nunu & Willump, Braum, and Lissandra. And one last little tidbit, there are some easter eggs to find for League fans so thats something fun to look out for :)

Overall the game is a short and sweet tribute to Nunu & Willump and the rest of the Freljord and you will no doubt enjoy it if you like League of Legends lore, 3d platformers, or are just looking for a new story to get immersed in for a short while.

Early Access Review
Amazing Early Access build. This game just oozes personality and the OST is really fun to listen to. the best part is that the game is just plain fun to play.

I played through the game on hard mode so I can't speak for how the game feels on easy, but the combat is super fast paced and engaging due to all of Ekko's mechanics like being able to rewind time, a slowly advancing projectile that you can speed up and empower and eventually comes back to you like a boomerang, a slow motion bubble that slows time in an area, etc, its all really fun and has a nice and short story. I like both 2D platformers and league of legends so this was a no brainer for me to pick up

EDIT: I figured out that the little icons on the right side of the screen are ingredients so you can cook items to give to your axolotls. makes sense now but I would have never figured it out if I didnt click on the boiling cauldron in the hub which I thought was just for decoration at first, because it never told me about it

If you like bullet hells then it's a solid game to pick up and play... for a bit. It has great pixel art, really cool music, and a somewhat unique hatching mechanic that allows you to hatch and grow little axolotl buddies that eventually become playable characters once they're old enough. however the game does a really poor job of helping you get into the groove and get familiar with the games systems.

for some reason the controls are only viewable and changeable when at the title screen. also, for whatever reason the aim-assist options are just completely broken. I've tried on my PC and my steam deck and it feels like the aim-assist does absolutely nothing. there also might be stats or currencies that you can increase and obtain on your runs (???) that display on the right side of the screen but it doesn't even tell you what they do. even when you go to the shops mid-run, they have items you can buy just like other games like Wizard of Legend and Enter the Gungeon, but nowhere does it even tell you what each item/weapon does. you just have to guess how useful its gonna be and what its even going to do by wasting your currency. there could be two different rifle weapons that you could buy and it won't even tell you how much damage they do, fire rate, etc...

another nitpick I have is that you can't even swap out your starting weapon. For each run you start out with a pretty poor albeit infinite ammo weapon that takes up a weapon slot. To me, it appeared as if I had 2 total weapon slots, and that starting weapon was just to get me through the first couple areas and then I'd swap it out eventually for a better weapon, seems reasonable right? well it turns out you only really have 1 true, interchangeable weapon slot because you can never swap out the starter weapon. the weapon quickly becomes useless as you pick up weapons along your run that are just plain better than the starting weapon, and it wouldnt even be an issue if you could get rid of the starting weapon. but no, it has to sit there and be useless and take up a slot.

feedback: make the controls viewable and changeable from in-game, add menu/UI sounds. there are no sound effects for navigating the menus and UIs of the game which feels really weird and unfinished. its not a huge deal but to me little things like that just add to the charm of a game and this one is just lacking. fix controller/kbm input icons. if you have a controller plugged in and you want to use kbm, if you are actively moving the mouse, the icons will stay as controller buttons rather than keys until you stop moving the mouse entirely

for me these little nitpicks add up and makes it a slightly unenjoyable experience. the game could easily be improved if they just fix little things like this but for now I wouldn't say its in an amazing state though for fans of bullet hells and roguelikes it's still playable

probably one of my top 5 favorite jrpgs of all time, always knew/heard about the game and knew of the characters but never actually gave it a shot, and what a mistake that was... if you're thinking about buying/playing this game and you haven't played it yet, just do it you won't regret it
