A fun game, I appreciate the return to form on an arcadey wrestling game, something that the WWE 2k series cannot provide. If that's all you want, and you have friends to enjoy it with, maybe this game is for you. But unfortunately, this game lacks single player content of worth. The career mode is fine, if a bit unremarkable, but there isn't much else from there. The creation suite is an absolute joke, wrestling games from 1999 had more options than this. And without a decent creation suite, I can't find the game having much longevity for myself. I do hold out hope though that this game will be supported long enough to start to shine, instead of just relying on yearly releases that just take babysteps every year.

If you want alternatives for fun arcadey wrestling games, maybe consider giving Action Arcade Wrestling (formerly the Chikara game) or MDickie's Wrestling Empire a shot instead, and wait for this one to go on sale.

If there was a middle point between yes and no for steam recommendations I'd probably give it that because your mileage may vary. I get that Chikara AAW is meant to harken back to the old arcade style of wrestling games found on the NES and the SNES, with a lack of modes and simplistic gameplay. However I really have to wonder, who really wants to regress in the advancements we've made in wrestling games in the last two decades? Do people really think any of the WWF games on the SNES are better than No Mercy on the N64? If you are one of those people, than this game may possibly be for you but it certainly is not for me.

In Chikara AAW's defence however, it does boast a comprehensive creation suite in its standalone wrestle factory, complete with easy and native custom texture importing. This is also helped with it's community creations and the move animations are so ridiculous they are really fun to see.

Overall, this game is extremely lacking in modes and reasons to play solo. Maybe with friends to play with either with remote play or online, you may get more mileage out of this game, but for me I probably won't play much more unless some more modes are added in the future. The devs have been updating the game with additional match types so it may be possible. I don't regret buying the game as I am all about supporting non-WWE wrestling games and especially supporting a small company like Chikara, I just want this game to be better than it currently is.
