i bought this forgetting it was the most recent battlefield out, playing it like "oh yeah, cant believe this is how games used to look like, so bland and unorganized" then i realized yes, this is the current state of battlefield

It goes without saying that the fundamentals, mechanics and design of the game is thrilling and fun to learn and adapt to.

Opposed to this, the matchmaking, ranking and community are what really tears this game down.

The community, which seems to be the biggest thing these reviews have touched on, sucks. It's awful, and if you scroll through comments on the negative reviews-- it speaks for itself. Almost nobody is gracious, you are shamed for wanting to win by giving pointers to teammates, the whole shabang. In comparison, In the words of another review, "even worse than Rocket League". Yes, it is unfortunately that bad.


As for the 'ranking system' -- it servers zero purpose in this game, at least for right now. Daily (NAE) the game **barely** eeks out 150 concurrent players, all of which are NEVER above the "mid to somewhat good" rank (gold,plat). You are almost always paired up with players who are TWO RANKS below what you are, because nobody plays. Contrary to this, the people you play against are almost always a rank higher, if not better than your squad, making the team-effort aspect of this game non-existent.

With the above in mind, if you are new, you will find yourself struggling to learn anything about the game and how to play as a team. It is never your teammates fault for being new, it is the games, and the poor decision making (that doesn't seem to surprise, two games later) of the development team behind Slapshot. This isn't a shot at them, though they should be better going forward before pulling the trigger on new ideas with little-to-no players, suchas the ranking system.. if that's what you even want to call it.


Like most reviews, I recommend just playing with friends until this game spikes. I would not press the quick play button unless you are with someone else.

I wouldn't even wish a random-fill Slapshot game on my worst enemy.
