Once Human fails to live up to its ambitious premise, instead delivering a pretentious and underwhelming experience. The game attempts to explore weighty themes of humanity and identity, but does so with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer.
The narrative drowns in pseudo-philosophical monologues and heavy-handed symbolism, ultimately saying very little of substance. Characters spout cliché-ridden dialogue that READ (no voice actors!!) more like a first-year philosophy student's musings than genuine human interaction.
Visually, the game treads well-worn post-apocalyptic territory. Desaturated colors, crumbling cityscapes, and generic mutated creatures populate a world that feels eerily familiar and lacking in originality.
Gameplay-wise, "Once Human" offers little innovation. Standard survival mechanics and uninspired combat fail to elevate the experience beyond its pretentious veneer.
While the game clearly aspires to be an artistic statement, it ultimately comes across as a self-indulgent exercise in style over substance. Those seeking a genuine survival game should look elsewhere. Those looking for a fun multiplayer game as well.

Awesome. It hits all the nostalgia marks, but does it in a totally fresh way. It feels exactly how a Monkey Island would have been made today. The art is asthonising, the puzzles are very clever and the humor, oh the humor.

Can't recommend this more.
