I wanted so badly to like this game but there's too many things that annoy me to continue.

First off I'll say that the game was sold to me (or I misunderstood it to be) as a Metroidvania + Excitebike platforming. The Excitebike stuff is true, it's all about managing the physics of your bike over ramps as you calculate how to kill enemies Hotline Miami style.

Or it would be, if the enemy variety wasn't so stale. The issue with this game is that everything outside the aesthetic and bike mechanics gets old fast.

The map feels too big and boring, I feel punished for trying to accomplish a side quest by driving through a largely boring and empty level for the second or third time. Backtracking in this game takes FOREVER. Hell I feel punished for attempting to finish the main quest objectives, which are often vague and confusing.

There aren't enough quick travel waypoints and they cost candles as a resource which are so easy to stock up on it feels virtually meaningless to even have the system.

A big personal qualm is that the entire soundtrack is by one artist and almost all of it has lyrics. These are pleasant enough songs and I'll never fault anyone for loving them but for me it got grating fast. Again, they're nice songs, just not over and over and over and over and over again.

The biggest issue with this game for me is the lack of consistent progression. The game does not feel like it rewards you for exploring with unique power ups or some cool little dopamine hitting discovery. Nothing but crafting materials and the same enemies everywhere.

In short, really fresh motorcycle mechanics but repetitive music, lack of enemy variety, powerups and no sense of discovery that you'd normally have from a Metroidvania.

I have beaten the hardest difficulty with every character and I still suck at this game.

10/10.

If you like fun, buy this game. There's some small gripes I hear about this game being a Flash game, but its $5 and infinitely enjoyable. I got a solid 91 hours out of this game and I will remember it for a very long time.

Basically, if you like Rogue-likes or dungeon crawlers, and you like Zelda, grub it up.

Played throug this over the course of a few days. Really solid game, beautiful level design and animation quality. If you're a Zelda fan whose looking for something gorier or celestial mythology, check it out.

For the PC port you may run into trouble using a non-Xbox 360 gamepad. I had to use an Xbox 360 controller emulator just to get mine to work, and even then a few minor control functions would not work. (active weapon switching)

I played this game during beta, I think it shows a lot of promise. I'm not very good at it, but I did really like it and I'm glad to see it on Steam. Hopefully this means a strong US playerbase!

Beyond Good and Evil is one of those oddities in games. From gameplay to story, style, and even reception there's something strange in all of it, and all of it is fun. By no means is this a game you won't recognize. It borrows quite nicely from both Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon Snap, stealth games (Okay, A LOT of this game is stealth-based) and even a bit of boat racing.

Where the oddities come in is how all of it is executed. This game has more story than Zelda and Metroid combined. The style is a bit reminiscent of Half-Life 2 in a cartoon universe (Hell, Jade even looks like Alyx Vance)

The story follows Jade as she attempts to uncover a conspiracy plot unraveling around the mysterious DomZ. Gameplay properly reflects this creeping, spy theme by having you sneaking through heavily guarded fortresses in order to snap a few incriminating photos and get the truth out to the public. There are even points in the game that thrust you into a classic action scene straight out of a movie.
