I genuinely learned so much from this game. It doesn't just have a lot of historical facts (which I loved), it also has tie ins to medicine, chemistry and even physics lmao. In one scene an officer straight up calculates the buoyancy of the floating lantern to see if it would be able to lift dagger to kill someone, while the formulas flash on the screen. I guffawed when I read that. The medical and science facts were surprisingly grounded in reality. If something was done anachronistically (ie before it was actually invented for the time period) they straight up say the depiction in the game is fiction.

The plot was also very solid. My personal favorites are cases 3 and 4, and 3 in general has a unique setting that I don't think I've ever encountered in a murder mystery before. Everything is also very solvable, there wasn't ever a time where I was completely lost. The historical context makes everything hit that much harder. I liked how after certain cases, they would show us the real life outcome of the places or events in question.

The characters are great. I love Afu.

I'm also a huge fan of the voice acting and I appreciated how they switched between English and Chinese where it was appropriate for the setting. My only complaint about the voice acting is that a certain character in chapter 6 sounds like they recorded their voice on a muffled headphone mic. Took me out whenever I heard them speak lol

The translation is pretty decent. I kind of agree that it's a little clunky at times, especially when it comes to names. This didn't affect my enjoyment of the game though! I thought the translation did it's job and there was no point where I felt it was unreadable.

I had so much fun playing this in a way other murder death kill games haven't quite captured.

Gris is a gorgeous experience that I still sometimes think back to years after finishing the game. Part of the beauty of the game is the numerous interpretations of grief and healing that can be gleaned purely from the art and music. Separately, the visuals and music can tell their own story, but when combined it's stunningly seamless. I think I've listened to the OST for far longer than my playtime implies, and every time it takes you through a cycle of emotions once again. The platforming aspects are simple, but the simplicity enhances the message the game conveys - how the message is received depends on the person, I think. It's less of gameplay and more of an "experience."

This game has an incredible atmosphere and the scenery is absolutely gorgeous. The story is simple but heartbreaking at the same time. The gameplay is also simple and easy to get used to. It's rather short but I enjoyed every minute of playing it; the puzzles aren't difficult but they're really fun to go through. The swinging chapter in particular was a blast to play.

10/10 murdered several spiders irl after completing

It didn't take very long to finish, but it was a pretty moving experience. I found myself a little annoyed with the protagonist, but the beauty of this game is that you can make her repent and own up to her experiences, or make her a complete ♥♥♥♥.

If you get it as a part of a bundle for basically dirt cheap/free, it's worth a playthrough. The plot is alright and takes little time to finish. I went for all the endings just to see what happened, but it's probably not necessary to do more than one.
