A potentially fun game with a bad gacha system.

Basically, a Dragon Ball themed hide-and-seek game where survivors work together to take down the raider.

THE CONS:

- The gacha system.
The drop rates for skills are disgustingly low. Your chances of getting all of the good skills are almost impossible unless you pay out of pocket to do pulls. The gacha can (and probably will) hold you back by keeping skills and super attacks from you, if you''re not a pay-pig.

- Region lock and No crossplay. [UPDATE: CROSSPLAY HAS BEEN ADDED]
The game is region locked, but crossplay is finally here for season 5, which has opened up the community and gives less time in the matchmaking lobby. [UPDATE] The game's matchmaking is now according to timezone.

- Painfully long queue times in matchmaking.
Breakers peaked around seasons 3 and 4. After that, the community has been slowly dying, which results in the matchmaking time gradually getting longer and longer (with the exception of crossplay to lighten the load).

- Unforgiving to new players.
New players will struggle to keep up with experienced players because of leveling system, access to skills / abilities, and time invested, making the gap obvious.

- Raider feels under-powered most of the time.
Seems like the raider has a hard time catching survivors that have too much at their disposal and use of cheap tactics, not to mention that a team might also be in a voice chat together to better communicate. Survivors are consistently getting new skills / abilities, while the raiders might get updates down the road. A team of decent survivors should easily outclass the raider.

- Simple and sometimes clunky controls.
The fighting in Breakers is quite shallow; the lock on mechanic can be annoying at times and close-range combat is underwhelming with vanish attacks being almost useless.

- Certain items, characters, and raiders are behind a paywall.
Certain characters have specific moves and skills that you're not able to use unless you pay out of pocket on them. Not a good practice for video games, in my opinion.

THE PROS:

- A unique approach to a Dragon Ball game.
This isn't your typical Dragon Ball fighting game. In fact, it's not much of a fighting game at all. The plot revolves around a Time Patrol team that Trunks put together (survivors) fixing broken time rifts where main villains from the show (raiders) are reeking havoc. It's the Time Patroller's duty to restore the timeline by 1.) Sending the raider back to their timeline or 2.) Eliminating the raider.

- Playing as raider.
This might be subjective, but it's just plain fun being one of the villains and hunting down the survivors, annoying as it might be.

- A decent amount of customization for survivors.
Although you have to spend time playing the game to unlock these items, Breakers gives you a fair selection to choose from; whether it be the skills, clothes, emotes, or your character's introduction into a match.

- The art is really good!
Not sure who is responsible for the artwork, but I think it's really good. Frieza, Buu, and Cell raider art look great! 9 out of 10!

Dragon Ball: The Breakers had me coming back for more on plenty occasions, despite its shortcomings. The player base is pretty standard, it has its veterans, noobs, and everything in between, which is fine with me. Based on my personal experience, Breakers is best enjoyed as survivor with a familiar team you can depend on. However, if you're fresh to the game then knock yourself out. It has plenty of content for newcomers. Just don't be surprised if you have a hard time getting wins.

Overall,
I'd give this game 4 out of 10.
The game can feel one-sided from time to time, but it is an asymmetrical game. It can feel like the balancing has issues and needs fine-tuning. The gacha system drags the game down, but it's a game I don't mind coming back to down the road and I hope is still alive and well in the future to come.
