Really does live up to being "infinitely replayable," but vanilla will only carry you so far.
Then you get 150+ mods and then it starts to become unplayable towards the late game due to extreme lag.
But, that's okay. It's also fun with friends, who are probably a lot more fleshed out than an AI, probably. Whether you play cooperatively, competitively, or just singleplayer, there is certainly a lot of war crimes to enjoy.

Except for xenophiles and their xeno-compatibility. They deserve only the finest purification.
