I believe that this game has great potential to be nothing but good times. I've played it a lot, and I wouldn't be surprised if I keep at it for a while longer too. They got a lot of stuff that you would think would be the difficult bits, like game feel, to actually be very nice. Running through the level blasting traitor guardsmen with my laspistol while I beat away hordes of poxwalkers, all while keeping an eye out for heretic specials looking to catch us unaware? I legitimately have come to love it, and I believe that the gameplay itself will only continue to improve.

However, there's just so much frustration when it comes to the random weapon shop, random weapon perks and blessings, random perk and blessing levels, random missions at random difficulties on random maps with random secondary objectives and random modifiers...they've somehow made ME of all people hate randomness, and that's legitimately one aspect of games I tend to adore. But in this case? It's been done in all the worst ways. With this much randomness added to the character gear progression system, made to be so outrageously obtuse when compared to Vermintide 2's gear progression, it's very difficult for me to grit my teeth and say that it's entirely because of them trying new things to make a better experience, and not because others with a stake in the company wanted people to artificially spend more time playing the game to have more opportunities to sell premium content.

I will gladly amend my review here if and when the game design seems to first and foremost serve the interest of the players, and not the interest of the shareholders. Until then, while I love the setting and this portrayal of it, I can't suggest that others buy into it unless you're SERIOUSLY willing to look past all of that.
