Randomly kicked for anti-cheat. Seems like Epic Games is making it rain on another publisher...

Real talk:

I really enjoy the first game and was excited about the second, but it is really hard to get into the sequel.

- Mechanics
feel more arcadish, random and sluggish, and all of your reflexes and muscle memory from the first game will be thrown off. Honestly the animations are worse and movement strategy is almost non existent because the controls and movements feel more luck based than anything else. Also, hand to hand combat has been ruined since dive kicking causes both players to fall and you can kick weapons out of your opponent's hand. Also if you try to slide under your opponent's sword and sweep them they will kick your head into the ground so that move is useless... The actual controls and mechanics are a mess and are a huge downgrade from the crispness of the first game.

The new weapons
are a great idea, but only the basic sword and dagger are done well. The broadsword is too easy, and the bow is useless. The bow is a missed opportunity since you either hit your enemy or they deflect the arrow and hit you. The bow feels like a handicap since you can't swing or thrust it like a sword and the AI always deflects arrows.

- Visually,
the game is pretty but unpractical. I was looking forward to a visual upgrade since the first game was too bland, but Nidhogg 2's visuals are too noisy and distracting. Often time character's will blend in with the environment which makes things more confusing. There's a difference between adding nice details instead of vomiting neon paint all over the graphics. Also, the game does have some optimization issues so if you're playing on a conventional computer expect some lag on some of the maps with a lot of background effects. Character customization is very limited and the lack of variety gets old really fast.

tl;dr

If you're coming from the first game, prepare to be very disappointed. Game mechanics are sluggish, random and doesn't have the same strategy and energy as the first. The graphics are nice but way too distracting and too much stuff happening. The new weapons are novelties but are way worse than the classic sword. Character customization is a feature you thought you needed but don't use. All in all, a downgrade from the first.

5/10

*If you're new to Nidhogg, get the first game, not the second.

Early Access Review
I thought this game was going to be a CS/TF2 hybrid, but it's A LOT like Call of Duty. It's very fast paced and has close quarted combat. And the level design reminds me of CoD4. A great start for an Early Access game! Here's a list of pros and cons:

Pros:
+Shiny and cartoonish visuals (I love realistic cartoon graphics)
+Decent map design
+Good firing sounds
+HUD and menu is pretty good for a game this early
+Optimized for integrated GPUs
+Only $6.99
+It's fun

Cons:
-Weapon models are too big (I mean they're too close to the camera) and pretty bland looking
-There should be a back button on the setting menu so if you accidently open it you don't have to confirm your changes every time
-Shouldn't show the scoreboard when you die
-Not that many players (Game needs more publicitiy somehow)
-Shouldn't have to choose your class everytime you die, instead make it like TF2 where you press a certain button with a class specific menu
-For some reason on the controls menu the text for knife isn't there
-If you're in the menu and you die, it'll take you off the menu and show the person who killed you which is kind of annoying
-The chat has some issues and gets in the way of the game. (For example, you have to erase the filler text "Type here..." or else it will make it into your message)
-Ragdolls and player animations are kind of clunky

Some suggestions:
=A Call of Duty style killcam would be cool since it's better than watching the person who killed you walk around
=The picture of the class that you're using in the health HUD is kida weird and it should be a cross or something like that
=Linux support (I know not that many people are on Linux, but it never hurts)
=Achievements

As of now, it's a great Early Access title and it's a lot of fun for a small price. I hope the devs can fix the issues I listed and you should consider getting it.

The game itself is potentially fun, but it has MANY issues.

1.Texture bugs in the first level and all the levels that are in that map
2.Poor Optomization: Runs at 15-25 fps and the game should run at 60fps+ on most computers with the kind of graphics it has.
3. Unpolished: The game has "bad" graphics. (Not the good kind of "bad" retro graphics, but just plain ugly ones) and poor performance, and not to mention the real landscape images in the skybox (please just get rid of that!)
...and more!

The game feels like a very early EARLY-ACCESS title, I understand it's just a simple arcade shooter, but it needs a lot of work. If it was cleaned up, it could be a really fun game to pass time.
