My steam played time for this game is 26.2 hours. My save file's playtime is 21 hours. This should give you an idea of how much progress was lost and time wasted by crashing when loading the save.

I want to like this game, I really do. But it really needs attention.

Update: As of yesterday's update I got a good 6 hours in with no crashes. Seems to run better, too. So for now I'll say, yes go ahead and get in on this. If it's at all like the original, it'll only appreciate in value from here.

Base game is reasonably fun.

Add FU and a few quality of life mods? Probably the most elaborately complex game I've played, in the guise of a cute 2d side scroller. It definitely scratches some itches.

I got over 500 hours on this thing, but I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. Just get it. This one belongs in everybody's library.

Thanks, now I can't go back to the older games until drop dash gets modded in.

Just to note, I'm not too far in so my review could be subject to change, but I wanted to throw one in at least as a placeholder. So, ignoring the game completely, Phr00t, as a dev, is such a breath of fresh air in the current gaming environment of today, with large games often being released and abandoned shortly thereafter with empy promises from the devs or community managers. Just checking the steam forums for his games you can see how actively he listens and talks with the players.

Compare this with Nier:Automata's customer interactions "We received your reports, thank you for your feedback, we will be investigating the issues that have been brought up" (One year later, not a single word said)

Onto the game.. I would not recommend this game to anyone who wants a real good hand holding. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who expects not to die in a game. I also wouldn't recommend it to anyone overly obsessed with graphics. However there's a group of people who read the last three things I said and their eyes lit up progressively more with each sentence, I do recommend it to them. There's only one thing that I'm far enough in to say that this game definitively has, and that's raw gameplay. I mean that in the best way possible, of course.

I'd also recommend it to anyone who has a vive and is looking for something a little bit grindy to burn some hours. Somehow grinding in VR just isn't as painful as doing it on a flat screen, don't ask me why, I'm not the scientist here.

TL;DR : Recommended to anyone capable of knowing what they're getting into prior to playing. Not recommended for sissy babies and people who get frustrated when games don't coddle you for making bad decisions.

Early Access Review
This game still isn't optimized, and now it's 60 dollars. If it's going to be launch price, it should be launch quality. That is all.

I'm displeased with how this game has been treated on PC. They released DLC but never bothered to fix the issues that FAR still corrects to this day. Were it for whether I want them to continue to make sales on a game they did not try very hard to ensure worked correctly, I would run you away from the idea of investing in it.

However, reviews are not for the producers or developers of the game. And since this review is just between me, and someone who has not yet added this to their library, I will tell you to ignore all of that and get it. Check the Guides section in the Steam Nier: Automata community to confirm which settings are recommended and how to get FAR set up so that you can get the best experience possible. It is definitely a bit of extra work, but it is absolutely worthwhile.

I would go into detail about all the ways this game hits every note a game should, but there are tons of reviews that do that in greater depth than I care to spend time formulating, so I'll just tell you they're not lying. If you're weighing whether you want to take the gamble on it, and you're looking at some of the gameplay and reviews and thinking it sounds pretty good- No dude. It's better than whatever you're imagining.
