Noy my favourite in the series, the RTS part is good(especially the naval battles) but the turnbased empire management part of the game is pretty boring. I don't know why but is pretty shallow compared to ROME, MEDIEVAL II or even SHOUGUN 2, is way to simple to be any fun.

Anyway, if you are new to the series don't bother with this one, get SHOGUN 2 or ROME 2/ATILA, unless you are really into naval battles (Master and Commander syle) and you don't mind a pretty basic resource managment this is your game.

On the other hand if you are a veteran of ROME and MEDIEVAL II, this is a pretty horrible game to play.
