Your grandfather hands you a letter; summing up to only open it when you're in a mid-life crisis. In opening the letter, he explains to take his farmland in a town called Stardew Valley. In which, you're introduced to many lovable villagers with individual personalities and traits. Over the timespan you can gift, and spend time with them to gain their friendship benefiting you.

Casual and relaxing. Controls are very simple, you can play with or without a controller. The main focus of the game is not independendtly on the farming aspect, rather more on the whole story itself. There's a Community Center to rebuild, relationships to be molded, mines to be explored, and of course the farm is develop. A sastifying part for myself that constantly keeps me coming back is the farm being built on more and more over time. To start off, there are 5 different farms to choose from in the beginning, giving us variety.
Character customization currently has a HUGE (200+ shirts) variety of shirts, hairstyles, skin, and accessories; including the color picker for the hair and pants is every color imaginable. This CAN be changed later in the game!
There is so much varity to the game with always having a task to do in the day. Whether it be mining, farming, gifting, fishing, etc. The game it is very hard to become bored. With over a hundred hours put into the game already, I still have so much more gameplay to accomplish.
Lots of animals to unlock over time, many types of fish to catch and so many mines to explore! Along with a musuem collection to complete; similar to the Community Center.
There are no "NPCs" rather more of each villager is a person. You will connect with each one differently and get to learn their own back story. Everyone has their own feelings and gravitation towards different characters. Multiple cutscenes with each individual that is unlocked by deeping the bond between you and the character. Quests, collectables, and recipes come along with the friendships. Note that marriage and having children are one of the goals that can be aquired. The marriage of course allows you to many ANY of the characters and not depending on the sex of your character.

Adorable. Personally growing up with NES, I have always been a big fan of the pixel style. The sprites are well designed and have smooth animations with no bugs (if you're not playing beta). The simple style fits well with the gameplay of Stardew along with the overall experience.
The soundtrack is amazing. It fits the theme of Stardew Valley which I honestly enjoy. Considering almost every game I play, I never pay attention to the music. Stardew's soundtrack focuses on the calming vibes it has with the casual feel of the game itself. The menu music is by far my favorite. There are six bachelors and bachelorettes to choose from and all have well thought stories that each path has. Dating all the players at once is an option (only consequence is your guilt) along with divorcing your spouse to marry another. Even turning your children to doves if you don't want them anymore.
