People should really try playing through this game as it was made - with the story, bosses, and time it was meant to take. On the official PvP servers it's mostly a dino hoarding, base-wiping, PvP-hungry scene. However, the ARK RP community and unofficial servers are a great place to explore the game more deeply than building the biggest boxes or taming the strongest gigas.

The game is buggy as hell, but I can't help but feel it has a sort of charm to it. I've played this game since the week of its release and I haven't been able to stop playing it for longer than a month or two. It's really easy to lose yourself playing, and time goes by like nothing - taming dinos, building up a community with other players, breeding and building. New mods and maps are still getting added to the official game, showing it still has a lot of potential to grow and develop.
