I dont understand the hate this game gets. Its a great game with familiar yet new gameplay but it seems that people just expect it to be a remake of subnautica, and don't know how to handle losing.

Only thing that frustrated me (which is my fault) is the little driving pengling thingy. I was doing a hardcore world (which in its self is interesting- when you die the save just straight up gets deleted. same way in subnautica, which sucks if you die for a stupid reason, like im about to mention, but also adds a fun aspect. still interesting that theres no "spectator" mode to see your world after you die though) and it was nearly completed. Had spent about 12 hours in the run. Had all but a few blueprints, maxed out character and vehicles, huge (but unfinished) base, explored the entire ocean, and just had to go assemble for the end (no spoilers). I found one of those pengling holes and went ahead and sent mine in. I saw the edges getting icy and i thought it was the pengling getting cold. I booked it back to my character so it didnt get stuck in the hole, and my vision started to fade. I got there just in time, just to find out that it was actually me who was getting frozen. My prawn suit was about 2 meters away next to me but it was already too late. The words flashed on my screen: you died. How the heck am i supposed to use that thing if im just gonna freeze to death in 10 seconds. Im amazed theres not a more noticeable warning.

Anyways, it really is a fun game. Ive made like 2 survival runs and probably 10 hardcores that I end up dying in at varying stages. I've learnt to actually use the tools that seem useless, like the air bladder (holy is the air bladder useful. Never had i used it until my most recent 12 hr run, and it truly changed the game. I could go places so so so so so so much earlier, and it was just generally nice to have throughout the entire game. I had 2 at the start but once i got my depth modules I moved to 1. still used it just because of the insane speed). Hardcore is the way to go though because ill forget what fish are dangerous and only vaguely remember the map, making it much more immersive. And it sucks dying whether playing survival or hardcore.

Absolutely amazing. It reminds me of Subnautica, of which I've been trying forever to find a game like.
