I'm only a few hours in so far, but I'm really impressed with this game so far. Its presents with a veneer of low-budget quaintness, but as you play you quickly realize the devs know their stuff. This game builds expertly on the foundation of Fire Emblem with a delightful levelling system, meaningful weapon triangles, and lovely character customization that allows you to make a couple of hilariously broken units at the cost of a more balanced army. It's not perfect - there are some bugs and a some skill descriptions aren't entirely clear (particularly ones with variables in them, like "gain X stat"), but everything else is more than enough for me to recommend this.

i do not like this game.

the mechanics are cryptic and poorly explained, and it felt like I had to play a specific way in order to progress. Half my city was always starving or sick, no matter how much food or medical treatment I had available. It just felt cruel for the sake of being cruel, as opposed to intentional and well-designed.

I wish I could refund this game.

It's rare to find a game where you as the player are so reliant on NPCs in order to survive, and I love the game's intimate and lonely tone. Just make sure you take notes while you're playing!

I was really looking forward to playing this game, but it's so visually overstimulating that I had to put it down after less than 20 minutes, and I didn't see any warnings on the steam page about this. I have no history of seizure, thankfully, but I do get eye strain easily, and I was just too overwhelmed to keep playing.

Once you get a run going, this game is absolutely amazing - few other games have made me pull out pencil & paper to do scratch math, and fewer still have had that actually make a difference.

That said, getting a run off the ground is not an enjoyable process and is the reason I close the game almost every time.

I don't want to spoil anything, but this game is surprisingly creative with its deceptively simple mechanics.

Languages are really fun to decipher, and I especially love when the languages intersect! Certainly has some unnecessary puzzle and stealth beats and I've fallen out of love with meta "true endings" but the meat and potatoes of the game is language and it excels at that.

This game is so good! Placing you into the world as a god-emperor's adjudicator is a great way to make every decision count and make the player feel important, while also forcing them to grapple with a ton of ethical dilemmas. I love the fact that there is no "good" or "evil" stat like in Mass Effect or Kotor, but rather that you build reputation with factions (all of which are, in some way, despicable).

The combat is eh. I don't like RTWP combat, but I'm playing on a lower difficulty so it doesn't bother me too much.
