... I can't believe it. This is the best 3D platformer I have ever played. Ever.

As soon as I finished this game, I thought about every 3D platforming game I have ever played, especially the ones that I regard as great games... and this game has impressed me the most. Through and through, I was charmed by the graphics, I was entranced by the music, I was empowered by the controls, I was having fun with challenging myself. And after everything, I was blown away by the story. And still, after that, there is so much more to do.

Because of this game, I will always remember these things: it's not about having the most advanced graphics out there, it's not about having the most intricately written or explainable story, it's not about planting an idea of immersion. It's about what you do, it's about feeling something, it's about experience. Those are the things that make a game great, and those are the things that this game can offer people in spades.

This is, unquestionably, a fantastic game.

It's like Sonic meets Mega Man meets Kirby, all wrapped up into an old-school feeling 2D platforming package! The levels have flow, the visuals are charming, the controls feel awesome! And the music gets me in the zone, makes me want to play for hours and hours and just vibe! And there are so many ways to play every level!
I haven't had this much fun with a 2D platforming game in a long time. It really brings me back to my Super Nintendo and Genesis days in all of the best ways, and it adds so much more. I wish I could buy this game over and over again and have a first experience with it every single time.

One of the best metroidvania games ever made (it is an Igavania game after all). Movement is fluid and responsive, combat is fun, and getting new abilities and items is exciting.

Always have loved the Armed with Wings series. I thought I'd get back into it since it's been a while, and it still has that great nostalgic feeling that I've come to know and love. Here's to what I call one of the most quality games of Flash origins.

Certain buttons or actions (attacks, blocking, switching weapons, etc.) are bugged on Xbox One controller. Pausing allows a single press of one of the bugged actions before they becoming defunct again. Wish I had the patience to say more.

No further than the first fight, I'm finding this game to be a beautiful mess. The visuals are a joy and the opening stage music is rather nice, but the controls are clunky, social interactions are underwhelming and lukewarm, and the game pretends that this blank slate that you create has character from the very beginning. If that wasn't enough, the mechanics offer little differentiation from the Dark Souls formula other than having options for faster movement and - of course - a half decent mix of jumping and vertical play, with jumping being the decent part. All in all, I'm pretty disappointed at the lack of self awareness this game portrays, and I'm sad that it doesn't play as good as it looks; a good concept gone tragically wrong in my eyes.

Awesome game. When it comes to platform fighters, Rivals of Aether is top notch. Crisp 2D visuals and support for various controllers offer a smooth learning experience with every playable unit, charming character and stage design make plenty of memorable moments, and fine tuned mechanics feel very easy on the fingers. Anyone who is a fan of varying paces in play and flashy visual effects should be ready for what is simply a gift.
