With covid forcing us all to stay at home more, I decided to do a fresh run of this game. While it does start off slow, things get more whacky as you progress. You gain access to more things to build, crazier gear and armour. You can build what you want to, dress how you want to, play how you want to, and fight how you want to. Welcome to the sandbox RPG thingy that is Terraria.

Unlocking new things is quite linear. You need to build your house to stay safe, explore to find the materials you need to build your armour and weapons, while finding other treasures along the way. Your home area may even be invaded by goblins (more invasions get unlocked as you progress)! Then once your strong enough, you can beat the current boss and unlock more things. Rinse and repeat, but some boss kills may unlock a whole crazy new set of challenges and obstacles. For example I just killed a huge wall of murder hamburger and now there is rainbows and killer unicorns all over the place!

There is loads of references throughout the game too, and may beat out ready player one on the sheer amount of references, Some are quite obscure like that murderous flying sphere from phantasm, others more known like the beloved companion cube (most expensive item in the game).

As for how whacky things get: Christmas tree sword! Weponized yoyo's! Summon sharknadoes! Fly on the back of a giant fish pig thing! Fight a cyborg skull thingy with four floaty weapon arms while its main head spikes ups and spins after you! Build a house out of cactus, because you can! Build all the things out almost of all the things. Want to live in a beehive? You can build out of hives and even make matching furniture! Build a tower into space, spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaccceeeee!

The difficulty of this game can get a bit grating and unforgiving at times. You can be stuck and get murdered continuously until you find and upgrade your gear. Make sure you make a greenhouse and collect materials to make potions, which give helpful buffs. Being a pixelated game, somethings can be quite tiny and deadly... oh look, a 3 pixal wide pressure plate that I didn’t see and a giant boulder just splatted my character! Falling onto a dynamite plunger is even more FFS! The ore I want to mine is like under lava, time to get creative! This ore sets me on fire, yay! There is a thing for that too, because no one wants to be spontaneously set on fire!

And then you look at the time and be all, I was playing for how many hours? Oops! Total time burner. And the crazy thing is, every-time you think that was the last update, they be all nope, WE GOT A BIGGER GIANTER UPDATE WITH MORE AND MORE AND MOOOOOOOOOOORE STUFFS! This upcoming one claims to be the LAST LAST LAST update, but I swear every-time they say that, more things come. And looks like mod support is coming too. The amount of dedication and love poured into this game shows big time, and puts this game in the list of one of the best games I have ever had the pleasure to play!

This game will hit you in the feeels. THE. FEELS.

10/10 will cry at passive ending again.
