It's good, but falls short of great!

Code Vein manages to incorporate a souls-like experience without the brutality. This allows you to avoid the tedium of consistent defeat which keeps the game moving at a, generally, excellent pace. The story is gradually meted out, morphing in unique and interesting directions. This lack of challenge cuts both ways however, diminishing the need to explore other aspects of the game like trading, single use items, weapons, classes (codes). Only once did I feel the need to explore element attacks and defense, and rarely changing codes to focus on magic (ichor).

Despite these challenges the uniqueness of its world, characters, and enjoyable combat I had a good overall experience. I find myself thinking about the ending and hoping for the possibility of a sequel that may be more well refined and add depth driving us to explore more of what the game has to offer.
