Wife and I play this split screen using a 3rd party tool. Thats really the only downfall is that they never bothered to make local co-op mode for PC but they did for consoles. Other than that many a good hours playing this!

Early Access Review
2/23/2018:
I check in on the game from time to time as I keep hoping for local co-op updates. Sadly they just never come, it was hands down the best local co-op game out there. I know when i'm at PAX East there are quite a few people looking for co-op games to play with each other at lan style parties, and this is one my friends and I are constantly looking back on and hoping it gets that sweet 4 player split screen update. Looks like its not happening. So now, our hopes of a clone to come out and pick up the torch where that first game succeeded so well. The game itself now is better than it use to be at early access, but just not the game I was hoping for. Still can't recommend it though.

Original Review:
The UI in this game might be one of the worst I've ever interacted with. The game itself looks pretty, but the user experience, navigating between screens, and not to mention the controls for the xbox controller really are not intuitive.

This on top of the fact that they removed literally the best part of the game - the local co-op. I used to play this with my wife, and friends in split screen and it was awesome during the first dungeon defenders. It sounded like they had planned to add local co op back in, and so my friends and i were stoked for more awesome lan party play, it really made this game unique. Now its a WOW wanna be, and just lost its magic. Kinda like you had a great thing going and broke it.

I'll update this review if they ever fix the menus, controller issues, UI, UX, and add in local co-op. But until then, I'm gonna sadly stay away from it.

If you're looking for the great experience you had in the first one, you won't find it here sadly.

We really enjoy the game, but recent changes have actually made it worse. Its hard to setup a game, more steps involved, the character choosing screen for instance is tiny now, and choosing a map is on a completely seperate screen that you have to remember to even choose a map if not its automatically random.

Some really strange UI/UX changes here as of late.

Game itself is fun, but if they keep making changes like this, the trend is is going to really kill the fun. Also, for some reason they decided to focus on UI instead of creating more maps, game play modes. Seems like a waste of time really when there was nothing wrong with the UI/UX to begin with.

I'd still recommend this game though. We've had a ton of fun with it.

Quick comment: When you get on a kill streak you have your music play, they've actually made most of the original characters music worse sadly. And even if you turn the music up to 100% and turn the other sounds down, you can barely jam out to your theme music.

Update: 6/23/2017 - The new additions are nice and welcomed. New characters are fun. Although I wish there were more maps and such, game is still a ton of fun. Although with the new update it seems as though theres a bug if you add local players a certain way then try to join a match against other people you get completely locked out of the game.

Another annoyance is they've made the score screen take up the ENTIRE screen, so anytime someone checks their score if you're playing splitscreen it pops up on EVERYONES screen. No clue why they thought this was a good idea. Thumbs down on this for sure.

The other thing which is taking some getting use to is the new landing pods, not sure if we're a fan of them yet. It seems like they're changing things for changing sake and trying to figure out how to maximize profit off of things they can sell to players. Now you can buy drop pods....i guess you gotta make money some how so not a bad way to do it. But sometimes its at the expense of the gameplay. This doesn't bother me enough to not play though just some getting used to.

Something which is kinda frustrating is that if you want to play offline and level up they removed that feature and called it "practice" and now you can't actually see the end game results of the practice either which sorta seems odd. Why remove the score screen if you're playing locally with friends?
