this game is really dull. there aren't any interesting character abilities and there's very limited synergy between characters (edit: after finishing the game, i did find some characters work well together e.g. support's hollowpoint ability with the heavy's unlimited overwatch ability). i think i'm about 1/3 of the way through and have zero investment in the characters or what they're trying to do.

the weapon implementation is also really dull. weapons are limited to be used by certain classes. OK fair enough that the marksman is limited to using rifles and the heavy class is limited to LMG but why should the leader/scout/support class be limited to their respective weapons? it would be way more interesting if anyone could use any weapon. the clothing options are also really annoying because they are restricted to nationality.

the game is slooooow. especially during the stealth phase when your units walk extra slow. pathfinding is cooked - your units will jump over two walls instead of taking the equidistant path around them, and they do it soooo slooooowly. you can't tab to another unit during movement. you're even forced to watch the reload animations. at the end of turn, the camera pans to some random ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ which you're forced to watch for a few seconds for no apparent reason e.g. it will focus on an enemy unit that was already visible. the action cam is also slow which would be OK if it weren't so anticlimactic. it would be way better if this only happened on kills. thankfully you can turn the action cam off. sometimes it will trigger even on misses. the post-mission 'debrief' takes so long too with slow and unskippable dialogue boxes. enemy actions also take ages. you'll be waiting a second or two for an enemy to rotate 30 degrees or just go into overwatch without even moving. put on a youtube video while you play 'cause you'll need something to do while you wait.

i don't like to whinge about difficulty because usually, being ♥♥♥♥ is my own fault but the hardest difficulty is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. the enemies can just wall bang you with pinpoint accuracy through every wall of an entire house and will just sit there and keep doing that even when there's no way they would have line of sight. they never need to approach your overwatches. the normal difficulty feels just a smidge too easy. there's also an annoying bug where enemy health bars disappear. you can still see hit percentage but you wont know what kind of attack to use. ultimately, you just have to waste AP to ensure you score a kill.

this game needs some QOL fixes at the very least. until then, it's probably only worth finishing for fans of the genre (edit: after finishing the game, i would not even recommend this to fans of this genre. it's a very forgettable experience and my hours are only so high because i alt-tabbed waiting for the enemy to make their turn then forgot to come back.)

This game promises to be a spiritual successor to Advance Wars but falls short. There's a lot wrong with this game but my main complaint is map visibility. You cannot see the terrain until you've explored it. This makes planning absolutely impossible. You pretty much just fly around until the enemy sees you first and whoops you. The only way to plan for this is to roughly memorise the level and play it again.
