Can't believe this won an award.
Everything about this is clunky and weird.
- RPG with no levels means it's just a matter of finding equipment and wearing it (you can steal everything you need to get to the third area in about 20/30 minutes of gameplay. if you know where to go).
- Has weapons and armor, but you barely use them, played it for 5h, and all starter area missions, only a single one has combat in it, all other combat so far has been optional. Either stealth is too easy, or there's just not enough material on the missions (so far, all but 1 have been fetch missions)
- Guards are just a "run" situation, you can get anywhere, if guards go after you, just keep running until they don't. Same with monsters
- Hours into the game, have no idea what it's about.
- Since there's no leveling, there's also no reason to get into missions (and no reason to get into combat, since monsters don't drop gold and guards are to strong to kill), apart from gold. (try to think of the reason why all merchants only have enough gold to buy a single piece of armor). They put an extreme limitation on your ability to sell stuff, because there's no reason to do anything besides gold.
- There's very little explanation as to how to world works, you get processed by a demon, what is a demon? there's an ancient civilization, what happened to it? there's a disease, what does it do?
- The map/minimap is terrible, it shows things for all your objectives, just faded if they're not your tracked objective.
- The camera is terrible, it just hides anything between you and your character. Think you can get up on that single crate? well, turn you camera around and suddenly there're two crates stacked. This happens all the time. Divinity original sin makes a much better job at this.
- Crafting is busted and has no explanation. It's also useless when you don't get into combat and cant carry all the random types of junk (used for crafting) without exceeding you weight limit.
- picking ANYTHING from an inventory takes time. Game doesn't even have the decency to speed up the time during this. 8s to perform a "take all" action on a chest is not okay.
- Stealth is way too easy, you make no sound when crouched, enemies never find you after seeing you hide on a bush. knocking down is the most powerful thing, since it's the only attack in the game that doesn't sound an alarm.
- There's a strange lack of sound during fights, no combat music at all. Enemies also don't emit any "ugh" sounds when hit. Makes for a pretty boring experience since there's no feedback besides their health being lower.
- game doesn't save automatically from time to time, can cause you do lose 30min of progress when your character falls of a clif because there's not stair to get to a platform which has a crate with things you need for a mission (how the crate ended down there without some way to lower it? who knows!
- Graphics are problematic to say the least. all on ultra 1440p puts my rtx 2070 super to cry. wouldn't mind if it looked like divinity, but it looks more like torchlight 2 with a few improvements (it even has the black outline on things). I even laughted when I saw the "equipament" tab, you character looks like a lara croft model from 2006 (this game is from 2017). In other words, poorly optimized, clothes look awful.
- The world is 3d (very), the map is 2d. That means when you get a mission to do somthing on a 4 story building with a basement, you'll have to look on all floors, because the game doesn't tell you the distance to your objective.
