scary game

extremely fun, fast-paced, nearly limitless skill ceiling

painfully difficult but truly one of the best games ever made. this game puts a big fat middle finger in your face and says "figure it out" and forces you to suffer through brutal, unfair tests of patience and skill, but the reward is unmatched. the initially clumsy mechanics slowly become a nimble way to navigate, to trick predators, to lure prey. you will get lost, you will be eaten, you will fall prey to traps, you will drown, starve, fall, but if you can put up with that, you will be rewarded. this game is beautiful. 10/10

difficult but forgiving, fun from start to finish

perfect visuals, perfect music, extremely amusing and thought provoking challenges, nothing feels lazy or incomplete
every time i encounter a new mechanic as i play i get a rush of curiosity, creativity and excitement that no other game has matched thus far

Essential 2D platformer, but I would suggest downloading the free version online, or better yet, the open source SDL port nxengine-evo!

Getting Over It is a spit in the face of modern game design trends. It rejects nearly everything that would make a game definitively "good", in favor of true struggle and frustration through tests of perseverance. This game makes me sweat, it makes me physically stressed... but it gets easier. Jumps and climbs that seemed impossible initially eventually seem easy. You don't feel like you figured out the challenge and solved it appropriately, you feel like you were given an impossible task but you did it anyway. The attention to detail is clear. A bizarre amalgamation of rocks and furniture and random props, culminates in a liminally familiar tone. At moments you can hear the soft play of children, or the chimes of faraway bells. The change in ambiance, visually and auditory, makes for an extremely satisfying feeling, just to see new props and hear new sounds. Of course, this also adds to the frustration when you fall and go back to hearing the same sounds you've been hearing for hours. I still haven't gotten over it.
