As a long time AC fan that is very familiar with every entry in the series, I was very excited but also had my concerns regarding a new Armored Core in 2023. I am very pleased to announce that this game is oozing with classic AC tropes and gameplay, and should be enjoyable for old fans and new fans alike. The game is not without its flaws however and there are quite a few that make me go “ugh.”

The good:
-Stable, never encountered any weird game breaking bugs, glitches, or crashes that seem common in 2023.
-Garage system that has been streamlined, but not dumbed down, which old fans can adjust to relatively quickly, and new players can pick up on.
-The stat help button actually gives detailed descriptions of a stat this time around.
-Narrative that is still obscure, but easier to follow than previous entries. Fun little wrecks to find that give backstory and lore building.
-(mostly) Responsive controls with fun movement and gameplay. Finding a play style you like and fine tuning it as you unlock more parts is satisfying. Lightweights are super fun in this game. Different leg types having unique gimmicks is nice.
-Awesome set pieces, art style, AC part design, and enemy design. Parts from different AC frames mix relatively well this time around, compared to AC4/ACFA.
-Awesome UI, the menus are very direct and easy to navigate. Having your AC in the background is a nice immersive touch. In game UI is mostly solid, with the minor gripe that you cannot change the color, and it is difficult to see what weapon you have equipped/how much ammo compared to previous games.
-Fun characters and dialogue buddy.

The bad:
-THE BOOST TOGGLE BUTTON. So many times I will loose my momentum, or be platforming, and then wondering why I am flying so slow afterwards. Why did we need a separate button for jump/thrust and toggle boosters on and off? It wouldn’t be so bad if the boosters didn’t turn off EVERY TIME YOU COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. They don’t come back on when you jump/fly away either, unless if you quick boost, assault boost, or toggle. Gen 5 had a toggle button and they always stayed on unless you turned it off! Its so annoying and breaks the flow of the game often. My biggest complaint.
-Lack of part variety. I understand not wanting to have a bunch of useless filler parts like in previous entries, but it seems like the options are really limited for some weapons and body parts this time. Why do we need 30 different types of missiles and 15 bipedal legs, but we only get 2 standard rifles and 3 tank legs this time around?
-Certain weapons feel very underwhelming. Rifles have always been my favorite in AC, but this time they are not great against anything that is not a fodder MT. Many weapons now need charged, and it makes them feel clunky to use, which frequently had me falling back on “minigun/shotgun” builds. Melee weapons, while powerful, feel rough to use due to the insanely long cooldown on most of them, aside from the laser dagger which you don’t unlock until CH4.
-Lots of random difficulty for the sake of difficulty. AC games have always been tricky, but this game throws a lot of spam and crazy difficulty spike bosses at you, unlike any previous game which seems like Fromsoft doing it for the sake of being Fromsoft.
-The large levels and long missions are nice, but I attempted to find hidden parts blindly and wasted so many hours of my life exploring these large environments, that have nothing in them. After looking at an online list, they number of missions that hidden parts actually appear in is very small. There are so many nooks and crannies and rooftops and side paths that ultimately lead to….nothing. This was never a problem in previous AC games, and it felt rather annoying to explore some of these large areas that are void of any secrets. There are wrecks that provide lore and artwork, however I feel they were sparse also, and they could have been used to fill many of these empty spaces.

Minor gripes:
-Can’t change computer voice, neither as an option or as a head stat.
-Can’t change HUD color.
-Stagger is annoying when it happens, but satisfying to do, so it’s a “whatever” mechanic.
-After unlocking all generators, only two feel worth using, one for anything that’s not a tank and one for tanks.

Wow. This game is a must have for VR users and any fans of the Half-Life franchise,
Half-Life games have always been about immersion and pushing technology forward and this game is no different. Never in a game have I truly felt like I was "there" until I played this. The physics, weapons, interactions etc are all believable and feel so good.
This game is also very optimized, game still looks amazing on low settings and will run on a myriad of machines.
This is an amazing experience and I hope everybody will get to experience it someday.
