I'm a huge fan of the original and I'm excited about a remake.
I marked this review as negative because even though I enjoyed it I hope the developers are changing a lot about the game with the help of these steam reviews

positive:
+ The music was very well done (the fighting score was to similar to the one of witcher 3 imo)
+ I liked the approach of adding new stuff to the known area, it is refreshing to get some new dialogues and quests while having lines of the original dialogue.
+ Even though it's a feature of the bethesda games, I liked that it shows what the opponent was thinking of your words and you sort of build a relationship with the npcs.
+ The graphic violence fits into the world of gothic
+ Adding some new gameplay elements like cooking feels nice and fitting even though I am not sure if I like the meal "Scavenger Sandwich"

not sure about:
= The artstyle of the temple fitting into the gothic world
= The menus are a bit overloaded
= The beginning felt a bit like the start of the Tomb Raider remake with the cinematic camera and the fire and the night-time setting
= At first it seemed like you were trying to fit one liners and weird jokes into it and this was not appealing but that was only in the part before you meet diego (scene with the sword on the bridge and the snapper)
= Turn the lens flares down j.j. abrams
= The monsters look alright but the difference between scavengers and snappers is to small. Where are the molerats?
= Feels like the real lockpicking system is not integrated in the game yet
= The endurance system fitting into everything
= The controls feel like they are getting developed for controller, for example you cant choose the items in the cornes at the quickslot wheel.

negative:
- Everyone is way to nice to the hero! This is Gothic not Hello Kitty! If you havent played the original you would think Bloodwyn and the others are nice people. I did not get insulted once in the demo!
Where is the iconic sucker punch in the beginning?
- The charactermodels looked creepy and outdated
- The motion blur was hideous and gave me a headache. It was even worse in the dialogues. The fog and the water had some bugs.
- The camera was to close to the hero and while fighting in the woods I wasn't able to see what was going on because it was showing me some trees
- The iconic eating animation and sound is missing
- The ability to pause the fights and eat something to regenerate health makes the game way less thrilling.
- Fighting a snapper at the beginning of the game feels akward and make all the enemies seem weak. Please up the difficulty.
- 29 achievements in a Demo? Are you serious ? I got 3! at the same time whilst opening a door? This doesnt feel like gothic tbh

- Why the f*** can the hero pee in pots ?
- Whats up with the cringy 2010 hipster arm tattoos?
- Did you like the "You have died" screen from DarkSouls so much you have to integrate it in your game? Or do you think the players havent noticed that they died?

about the combat system:
You were writing about the original combat system beeing outdated and you want to change that. First of all it's alright that you want to try a different approach but as it's playing in the demo it's not really an improvement imo.
It feels really slow and hard to predict an attack if you want to block it at the same time it's not clear when you get hit while dashing.
The system with the different stances or attack sites is ok but in combination with the block/dash/endurance system it feels overloaded and hard to control and not in a good way, that you can learn it and get better with time, it just feels random escpecially when fighting with a group of enemies. It feels pretty random if you hit and enemy or not. For example I dashed into a group of sleeping wolves and was not hitting all of them but in the next strike i hit one that was further away.

All in all I like the idea of an official Gothic remake and adding stuff to it makes it more exciting. But at this state it feels like a fan build in UE4..
