This style of game is not typically my cup of tea. I even put quite a bit of time into
Larian's Divinity: Original Sin and OS2 with friends, but they never really grabbed me; it's just not my speed.

Baldur's Gate, however, has quickly become one of my favorite games, and it's absolutely the best game of the year in my opinion. The balance is perfect between exploration, battle, character building, and interaction with NPCs and the world. The story is engrossing, the characters deeply developed, and the gameplay varied and always interesting.

I am in awe of the interactive depth on display, with a ridiculous number of narrative options with both main characters and background NPCs. The fact that the options have actual consequences and lead to literally thousands of branching narratives makes it even more incredible.

The ability to meet each challenge and traverse the massive world in innumerable ways, with your creativity seemingly the only limit, means the game stays fresh across multiple playthroughs. And you will want to play the game multiple times, owing to the far-reaching and reverberating consequences of seemingly every decision you make and the vast array of characters and roles you can play.

Baldur's Gate gets an enthusiastic 10/10 from me. You won't be disappointed, and you will definitely feel like the money is well spent.
