Very nice retro-aesthetic platformer metroidvania, the dream-like randomness is spot on, with enemies and areas often seeming chaotic but with a sort of realism to it that doesn't really make it all too abstract, exploring the large maps is very fun as well, the platforming is very complex and rewarding especially as you advance and pick up new abilities.

The soundtrack, if often a bit repetitive, sets up a nice ambience especially in areas like Empty Bailey, the Twilight Theater and the Listless Library, the graphics are very nice too, it's a great representation of retro 3d game graphics and is reminiscent of games such as OoT, the animations are spot on as well, they run at a reduced framerate to simulate old, hand made animation (this can be disabled in the options if you're not a fan).

My only gripe with this game is that, although the combat is (personally) fun, it's very repetitive as there's a small variety of enemies to face, with only a couple unique ones (which you could consider as bosses). I feel like a somewhat wider variety of enemies to face would have done this game a lot of justice.

Either way, Pseudoregalia is a great retro 3d platformer and metroidvania and although short, it's worth a shot.

A very fun take on the monster collection genre, it has a well written and interesting story and a lot of things to do. It's a double battle system (you battle alongside a partner you control, there's 6 unlockable partners btw) where instead of capturing the monsters you TURN into them, with a lot of type interactions, for example if you hit a steel-type with fire you'll melt it and give it a burning effect, if you hit a plant-type with air you'll uproot them and reduce their AP generation (the thing you use for moves). Also, it has a fusion system with over 10000 combinations, which are not done by AI!

It's also completely open world, meaning that after you complete the tutorial you're free to go wherever, personally I think it's quite overwhelming as there's many things to do right from the start but the freedom is heavily appreciated as you can play however you like: going straight for the end of the game, do sidequests, build up your relationship with your battle partner, explore, find secrets, yada yada.

Apart from this the game is very original with it's story and systems, although some things are similar to other monster collection games, there's enough new stuff to make it interesting and unique (I won't spoil anything here, so you can figure out by yourselves), it's a very confident game creative-wise and it shows.

Would recommend.
