While Civilization: Beyond Earth is more of the Civ 5 you enjoyed for years now. It lacks and cuts many of the things that made the game before it so much fun.
My first grip is that there is only 8 civs while civ 5 had 18 at the start! I know there will be more added knowing the Firaxis, but this means starting out huge game will always feel pretty empty compared to civ 5's full diverse cast and personalities. The ai of these civs is also very unfinshed. I had attacked a outpost for a quest when i was done the other civs were upset with me of course as i killed their trade partner (okay fair point). Promised i wouldnt do it again and didnt while i watched the ai continue to bombared other outpost themselves with gun boats and aircrafts only being to dumb to send melee units to destroy it. That didnt bother me what bothered me was that they kept sending me messages that i was attacking some ghost outpost and they were pissed off about it. the ai also doesnt seem to care about trading with these outpost either since most games i've played the outposts that i couldnt directly trade with usally die even though they are nearby other civs. I've also noticed the ai just doesnt know what it wants. Many times i have been offered blank deals by the other civs only to assume they wanted open boarder, other times they would ask for some of my strategic supplies for favours me being the richest civ in most of my games would say yes only for them to say "NO not good enough!" (mother ♥♥♥♥♥♥ you came to me asking for free ♥♥♥♥! WHICH I AM GIVING YOU FOR A FAVOR YOU OFFERED!).
These civs also dont have much to seperate them from eachother as their perks are pretty weak and makes them play pretty much like the other civs. The game comes down to just getting the most virtues to be the strongest nation. I found asia and polynesia to be op for their perks and everyone else beisdes maybe africa to be piss weak and generic to play.

There is now a Affinity system in the game which is kinda like the ideologgy system in Civ 5 except most of victories, units and buildings are based around it. I thought i would like this system ( but i ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate it) Because of this no civ has unique buildings or units makeing most games feel the same with a diffrent coloured units depending on whats your domminate affintiy (Green-blue=harmony, Black-yellow=supremacy, Beige=purity). You also don't have to upgrad or buy new units as you advance since once you get another level in your affinity they upgrade themselves with new aspect meaning you can spam a bunch of gun boats at the start rush towards your affinity and you have a unstopable navy/army ready to ♥♥♥♥ up the next civ who asks for another blank deal again.I almost never built armies in civ 5 since i didnt like war and upgrading them was a pain and they cost to much, but in C:BE I have atleast 10 gunboats outisde my cap with 6 guards on land at all timewith no problem and no fear they will be outdated as gaining affinity levels is stupid easy.
The system is key to many of the victories in the game all of which are Boring and anti-climatic. After every victory the game just ends and sends you to the main menu or you can have another turn doing special again ( No score screen showing you your prgress through the game or anything).None of the victories are hard just tedious and easy very unfullfilling, In civ 5 you have to work hard for your win or atleast put some effort into it, have a plan and see it through in the end now they all just feel like; "research this....then build that thing....wait 20 turns(or movve these guys here or send these guys to new land) and your done thats it! You really don't even need to think about what you want your victory is going to be since most are based on your affinity keeeping you stuck to that victory once you have to much of one affinity. The other victory besides dommination has you making contact with aliens cool right? NO you just build this tower and wait 20 turns.Though atleast this one has you actually needing to explore. Affinity should not have been this core a concept to the game as it has just made the game very predictable and should have been kept like ideologies in civ 5.

Not everything is bad though I like the starting options to make your civ feel more like yours, but even that gets old as you figure out what perks you like best and take them every game. The quests are a welcome feature and to me probably to the best part. The New policies (virtues) are great. They made trading necessary and and overpowered though i welcome this change. And watching the other civs chnage with their afinity is cool .

Overall its a okay game if your new to civ, But it lacks alot and needs fixing. As of right now its too easy for those who played civ 5 and doesnt offer much of a challenge or fullfillment at the end of it.
