Free DLC incoming! :D
A great game that is definitely worth playing through and re-playing through. Lots of challenge modes to unlock if that's your thing, but the main campaign is memorable and well-crafted. The hub is very interesting too, with tons of mini secrets to unlock! I will remember this campaign for a long time. 10/10 would shoot more red guys.

Great game with good art, lots of unlockables and plenty of stages! Worth it, especially on sale.

For $1.69, you will get your money's worth. For ten times that amount, you should pass over this title.

Glitchy and unfinished, not worth it even on a sale. :(

Truly the deserving champion for indie title of the year. A beautifully crafted game that tells a unique story. I absolutely love it and just want to keep playing through it over and over and over again... Brings a lot of nostalgia from my days in high school. First time I really need to craft the steam community badge for a game to display on my profile. Reminds me of Myst, Luigi's Mansion, To The Moon, and Stanley Parable.

A truly incredible title developed by our beloved Valve Software. If you would like to play games online and have a good amount of time to invest, I can't recommend any other game higher.
A breif history: DotA was originally a hugely popular community developed modification of Warcraft III. It is the game that popularized the MOBA, and people still play it today. Valve hired the original creator of DotA and has preserved the core of the game while making countless improvements to everything else, from the visuals to the matchmaking system... basically, they turned a mod into a full fledged AAA title.
Valve is commited to a strict free-to-play model for Dota 2. That means that this game is not "pay-to-win" in any way shape or form. Each and every character is available to play with immediately and there is no way to buy items to impact gameplay, to preserve a very well-balanced battlefield experience.
There are over 100 playable characters with more content being added steadily.
Notable reasons why Dota 2 may not be for you:
The learning curve of this game is significant. If you want to really enjoy an online match you should spend a good deal of time training in bot matches and definitely go through the entire training portion of the game. This takes some serious time dedication but it's always fun even just fighting with bots. I also spent hours browsing online guides and introductions to the sport in order to get a really deep understanding of the underlying (but nevertheless important) mechanics involved.
A single match of Dota 2 can take a lot longer than some online games (which is true for most MOBAs). I never start a match unless I know for a fact that I will be free for the next hour, because quitting on your team is never cool. The good part is that even if your internet fails or your computer crashes, Valve still gives you some time to rejoin the match.
The community of this game I have found to be less than favorable, especially to newcomers. My very first online match experience was ruined by a jerk with a loud mouth and a microphone. So if you can play with friends, it is definitely recommended.

Overall, this is one of the most well-balanced and diverse online multiplayer options available, and they're giving it to us for free. Learning new characters is exciting and there is nothing as satisfying as working hard through a match and finally defeating an opposing player or tower.

I had a blast playing this game in a group of four this last summer. From the second I watched the impressive trailer I knew how fun this game looked, and I wasn't disappointed. Spent a number of late nights running through this challenging but thrilling indie wonder, still one of my top indie games of this last year.
Edit: Months and months later, I am still playing Hammerwatch. This is a truly amazing game with a devoted indie team that is continually supporting us with new content for free. The new campaign was amazing. Seriously, they could have called it a whole new game and charged more money for it, and I would have been happy. Grab a copy, or much better yet, get a four pack and play with some buddies. I have gotten so much entertainment from this game for the small price I paid. There are few other games on Steam I could reccomend more for co-op fun.
