During lockdown with all the COVID 19 and anti-current politicians stuff, I decided to play The Witcher trilogy to escape our dire state of the world. And I have to say, aside from baking with my mom and watching movies, playing the trilogy is the best thing I've done during quarantine.

The last part, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been one of the best video games I've played, with its lived-in fantasy open world, with great writing and its morally ambiguous choices. You play as Geralt of Rivia, a Witcher or a monster slayer for hire as he tracks down the Child of Prophecy, Cirilla.

The outcome of the story will be affected by the decisions you will make throughout the quests, whether it be the ending or the fate of the characters. Unlike GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, or other games where you make a wrong move that results to a "mission failed" popping up from your screen and restarts from your last checkpoint, The Witcher 3 acknowledges your mistakes and lets you move on with the story. You just have to suffer the consequences from the choices you made. Speaking of choices, choosing an outcome isn't as easy at is sounds. It's not merely right or wrong. Each choice places in the gray area of morality.

The whole game is like a fantasy trolley problem where you're faced with choices that'll question your morality. A lot of quests are like that in the game and the Baron quest is just one of them. It's story filled with ethical dilemmas where your choices matter makes for a truly investing game. It might reflect your real life moral principles as it offers you complex choices that might apply in real life.

The characters are also very complex, each with their own ideals. Characters like Yennefer, a sorceress who's stern and toxic but only because she cares, Zoltan, a dwarf who's neglecting the racism between the humans and nonhumans for his own inner peace, and Dandelion, a bard who's trying to find his place in the world as he tries out different things like finding love or making poetry. The quests that involve them in harsh situations, you can really feel sympathy for them. You understand why they do what they do. They feel like real people as opposed to the one dimensional characters in other games.

For a fantasy game, it also depicts real world issues such as racism, poverty and politics. There is a war between humans and nonhumans (dwarves, elves, even Witchers). A group of nonhuman rebels fighting for a cause. A decline of kings for which they are assassinated so living kings may take over the lands. Combined with legendary concepts such as magic and monsters, makes the world really unique.

The game's open world are also one of the most impressive locations in gaming. From the rural areas of White Orchard, licking their wounds from the aftermath of the war. The No Man's Land Velen, in which you see Nilfgaardians (the guys who waged war) hanging people from poles and trees. The corpses you see everywhere consumed by ghouls and other monsters. The free city of Novigrad, filled with religious fanatics and discrimination against dwarves, elves and mages. The mysterious Skellige Isles, filled with magic. The npc's (non playable characters) feel real also with their own motivations and perspectives in the story, as well as their day to night schedules. Like a blacksmith who forges and repairs weapons for the soldiers by day and a family man at night. It feels like a living, breathing world.

I can't recommend this game enough. 10/10
