The Company gave me better job training than the place I work at in real life.

Darkest Dungeon 2 does a great job in distilling the essence of what made the original so great, but it is clear that this game has been designed to cater towards a different playing experience. I deeply respect the effort and care that the developers put into making DD2, and, personally, I have had more fun playing this game than the first installment.

I was somewhat surprised to see such a heated debate upon the release of Darkest Dungeon 2, but I think both sides of the debate have put forth (some) good arguments. I prefer the rougelite progression loop myself, but I can already tell it's going to take a while to unlock everything the game has to offer. Some people don't like that, and it's fine not to. DD1 was not my cup of tea in some aspects, and I'm sure that I will not like some parts of DD2. Overall, however, I have had a much better experience so far.

However, I find it difficult to call Darkest Dungeon 2 a sequel to the first game. The two games share the spirit of pressing on through tremendous adversity, but the run-based structure of this game severely dampens, if not negates outright, that XCOM vibe of building up your infrastructure over a long campaign that the original is known for. Provisioning is also simplified, but these changes are made so that other systems, such as hero Affinity, can still foster the experience of growing attached to your heroes over the course of their journey and watching as they all come to love (or despise) each other.

My verdict: Enjoyers of rougelites should definitely consider picking this up. and if you're a fan of Darkest Dungeon, that's just the cherry on top. If you're new to the genre and coming from the first game only, then you need to understand you are not going to get the exact same experience as before. If you're looking for the original Darkest Dungeon with better visuals and nothing else, this is not that game.

It is hard for me to ascribe exactly what makes Brutal Orchestra such a great game, because it does so many things right. The writing is comical and relatable, the art style is morbid yet beautiful, and the combat is challenging but rewarding. I understand that the complexity of this game may drive some away, but it deserves so much more attention than it is currently receiving. Heck, I only found out about Brutal Orchestra almost a year and a half after its release thanks to Northernlion. I really hope the developers are proud of the game that they have made, because it is an outstanding piece of work that everyone should see!

This game is a true work of art, but will suck you in almost as much as Civ 5. It's very easy to lose track of the time as you play, so be careful not to play Rimworld late at night if you have to wake up at a reasonable time the next day.

The game is best when played with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ friends like the ones I have. Be sure to only buy on sale though, much more worth that way.
