Downwell's a vertically scrolling arcade-style shooter with roguelike elements, has simple mechanics and fun addictive gameplay.

The retro visuals are great, the music is pretty cool, and with twelve levels plus a boss at the end, multiple item upgrades, and different playstyles, it's a really solid game worth more than what it's priced at IMO.

A good collection of classic arcade beat 'em ups from Capcom.

It's got a clean UI, an art gallery section with lots of concept art, the ability to change your resolution, an actual exit game button (looking at you Konami), and online co-op play!
Sadly the online mode is pretty much dead which is really unfortunate because the few times I was actually able to join another player in game, I had a blast!

Also the last time I played Knights of the Round was on an arcade machine at the back of my local convenience store, so it was cool to play that again. 🙂

Jotun is an action-exploration game with beautiful hand-drawn art and animations. There's a lot of exploring to do which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but at the same time it just felt drawn out and empty IMO.

The boss fights on the other hand were pretty epic and I loved the sense of scale you get while fighting them.
Even though it's not a long game and can be completed in several hours, it was still enjoyable.

Another World is an iconic game that was ahead of its time when it was released 30 years ago.
It involves a lot of trial and error which can be frustrating, and is probably one of the reasons why I never made it far on the Sega Genesis version, "Out of This World" as a kid.

Since this is the 20th Anniversary Edition, there's some cool features like the HD graphics which can be toggled on or off, the remastered sound effects, three difficultly settings, and an option to change your resolution.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to run it at 4k. In fact setting the resolution to anything higher than 1080p would cause a black screen, and continued even after restarting the game. To fix this I had to go into my users\documents folder and delete the AnotherWorldUserDef.xml file, then set the resolution back to 1080p.
I did also experience random crashes which was annoying.

It was still fun to play and do recommend it if you're into these older type games. 👍

A fun and interesting game where you play an alien like creature wreaking havoc on everything in its path.

The movement feels smooth as if you're gliding around, and the sound effects are great!

Also, ripping people to shreds has never felt so satisfying 😈

I forgot how frustrating some of these Castlevania games can be.... but that's all part of the fun right? 😁

Konami also included Kid Dracula, a game I've never heard of before playing this collection but was actually kinda fun.

The only thing I can nitpick about this collection (as well as the Contra one) is the fact that you have to use ALT+Enter to fullscreen and ALT+F4 to exit.

You Have to Win the Game is a great free to play retro platformer with an awesome CRT look and cool CGA graphics.

While it can be quite difficult in certain areas, they're a lot of checkpoints throughout the game and the controls are tight so it's not too bad.

Also the character immediately reminded me of Milon's Secret Castle 😁

I didn't really get into this game when it was released on the Genesis, but my brother loved it and I'd watch him play it.

The animations and cutscenes are a highlight, and the gameplay's great even though the controls do take a little bit getting used to.

Awesome game overall!

Saw this game on Sega Saturn at a convention when I was younger, but didn't get a chance to play it at the time. Fast forward two and a half decades later and I finally got around to it. Better late than never right? 😁

I was a bit confused on how to play at first, but after realizing that you need to run multiple laps while collecting items and creating links in order to increase your score, it became more enjoyable.

The visuals are colorful and the music's really catchy, and even though it's a short game with only seven levels, they're all pretty fun to play.

MO: Astray's an excellent puzzle-platformer with unique mechanics, cool pixel graphics, and an awesome soundtrack.

I found the story a bit confusing at first, but it turned out to be quite interesting, if not a little sad.

The movement mechanics using both analog sticks worked well and felt fluid for a game like this, although it did take me a little while getting used to since I'm accustomed to the D pad.

The art style and atmosphere were fantastic as well as the soundtrack which was both relaxing during the levels and intense for boss battles.

I think the one negative for me is that the game only allows up to a 2560x1440 resolution. It still looks great at that res, but not having a 4k option is bit disappointing :(

It's a gem of a game and definitely worth a play!
