PSA: New players trying out the F2P Version, start with single player Shadow Lords to get at least 1 character after finishing the tutorial (takes about 5 min). If you're having fun with it keep playing to get at least one more + skins & colors.

Been playing this since it launched on PC the first time around but hated using the Xbox app for it. The game is pretty close to perfect outside of its age.

+Good netcode (rollback)
+Great roster (all characters from classic KI 1 & 2 are back)
+Crossplay (for everything but ranked on this version of the game)
+Easy to pick up and play
+One of the best tutorials in all of fighting games
+Free version can play all game modes, has character unlocks and rotating freebies to check out.
+You unlock customization items just by playing a character in any mode.

Cons
-The lobby system is a bit outdated (but still very functional)
-A good chunk of unlocks are exclusively tied to Shadow Lords
-No ranked crossplay
-Only 1 purchase option for F2P upgrades now (but the full game is regularly on sale for $10)
-They took away my new cool colors :(

Has everything you could ask for except easily navigable menus.

Excellent throwback to classic TMNT games with a much better feeling combat system. Music is great, roster is great, 6-player co-op is great, my only gripe is the absence of a survival or boss rush mode to add to the replayability.

Best battle royale to date!

As a big fan of the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games, this game feels almost like what the natural progression of those could have been. More in depth combat, a stronger more focused storyline, excellent graphics and consistent (FREE!) updates. The only things missing are character hot swapping in single player and an expansive roster (featuring at least SOME X-men) but the free character releases will definitely help a LOT.

As of right now there's some bugs and performance issues for me (granted I'm running on mostly 7 y/o hardware), and there are some much needed QoL/UI updates. Hopefully all that gets ironed out by the first character/story bundle. If you're a Marvel fan and have a good PC to play this on I definitely recommend giving this a shot.

PC, PS4, SWITCH AND XBONE CAN PLAY TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER IN A FIGHTING GAME!!! BUY THIS GAME!!!!

Also there's really well made 8 player lobbies now and a ton of visual upgrades from the base version. 10/10 and imo the best fighting game of 2019.

One of the best fighting games on Steam! Decent roster, easy controls, VERY well optimized, and crossplay with Xbone and Switch creating a very solid online playerbase! nWay also does a great job listening to and responding to fan feedback, so as long as players are vocal about any the issues, they'll be addressed in future updates.

Alright, I'm leavng a postive review, so let's get the bad stuff out of the way first.
1. There's a lot of UMvC3 characters ported to this game, but also not all of them which is why this is bad. The ones that have been brought over have been retooled though and almost play completely differently than they did before.

2. The UI and models aren't the best, but we're on PC, give it time ;)

3. Marvel side music is no longer the classic themes we're used to. Once again, mods can easily fix this.

4. No arcade endings, but they put a lot of resources into story mode so thats good enough for me.

5. DLC characters look better than everyone else. Seems like every fighter has been doing this lately, but it definitely sucks.

Now the good

1. Gameplay is fantastic, I was a skeptic after hearing how drastically different it is from UMvC3, but after playing for a while and getting a feel for it it is absolutely amazing. The combo system is more freeform and gives you more options than you even thought were possible.

2. Netcode is great, I have about 24hrs logged atm with at least half of it being online play, which usually runs buttery smooth. The few laggy matches i've had were more teleporty and less underwater feeling. As long as you're on a decent hard wired connection, you'll have a great time.

3. The new characters are all really fun and good looking. You can tell where they put the most effort in, Jedah in particular looks amazing and has lended himself amazingly to this new system. Thanos while effectively different from his MvC2 counterpart still retains some of his classic charm, but is overall a much better character.

4. Support! This game is destined to have a long life and a healthy amount of content over time. The biggest complaints about UMvC3 were regarding the lack of updates to the game. As time goes on we could see our old favorites return.

TL:DR If you like fast paced fighting games, try it. If you just like new Marvel/Capcom characters, wait for a cheap DLC bundle or good mods.

I'm late but I felt I needed to update my review for Arcade Edition. This is without a doubt the best entry point for SFV. It is very much a complete package and what SFV should have been on launch. Buying this bundle will net give you acces to plenty of Fight Money, which you can use to get the remaining 6 DLC characters for free, as well as stages, costumes, colors and music from the shop. While the price point is fair I've regularly seen the price drop down to $20~$35. In this bundle you start with the following Content.

The game has done a complete 180 from it's launch and is now packed to the brim with content. There are MANY opportunities for Fight Money for anyone starting fresh with AE, and it won't feel like a grind as you bounce between different modes. Even if you only want to play online, you can turn on Fight Request while you blast through the other modes available.

Between crossplay, unlockable DLC, constant dev support and a slew of content, it's clear they listened to fan feedback to fix every problem they've had in the past with this game. No other fighting game out now has been as ambitious as this. If you're an SF fan, a fighting game fan, or even someone with a passing interest, get SFV AE.

*(Modes with an * next to Fight Money reward large amounts of EXP which give FM with every level up. Starting from level 0 you can earn about 25-30k fm per character playing offline exclusively)

While the game isn't overflowing with content yet (just hang on til march guys) Capcom has managed to nail the one thing I haven't been happy with since SFIII: 3rd strike... Gameplay. During the SFIV era I felt like the game was plagued with sluggishness, and incredibly difficult combos. The movement was stiff and unnatural while the only great thing about it imo was the roster.

SFV has improved on this so much to the point where sometimes I feel like I'm playing 3rd Strike again. Netcode is excellent (dude cross platform play! thats frickin awesome!) the graphics look far better than SFIV ever could, toning down the cartoony look just a bit. The roster is varied and interesting and the character designs are generally pretty good! The soundtrack is also better than SFIV's but not quite on the level of SFII or SFIII.

Basically the only issue I have atm is server issues, which I would expect on launch day from basically any major series now, but Local VS., Survival and Sory Mode are all good enough to keep me busy until everything is worked out.

Everything I've seen people complaining about has already been guaranteed to be fixed (though I agree some of this should have been fixed before launch), and I have no problem patiently waiting and racking up points for the store in the meantime.
