The level design is somewhat restrictive, even for a Thief game, especially in the City. The game is best played on the Hard difficulty, to maintain proper tension and focus, and ensure the guards are actually aware of their surroundings.
I love the awesome physicality the game offers - you can slide between cover, and vault over obstacles in a pinch. I understand why the constant pickup animation is bothering some, but I found it perfect ably suitable.
The more confident less brooding and isolationist Garret was much more interesting. Stephen Russell has also not reprised his role from previous games.
The guards have also resorted to being more morose and brooding. There seems to be no more funny commentary, similar to Thief 3. Now everything is dead serious, without a trace of playfulness. Though the mood might fit the game at first glance, it falls short of creating a believable grim-dark world.
I've enjoyed my time with Thief, though the game is easily overshadowed by other modern FPSims - Deus Ex 3 and 4, the Dishonored series.
