Fun concept, but riddled with bugs that are game-breaking. Can never get super far in co-op before a crash happens, and at that point progress is lost. Definitely needs more TLC from devs. When a game does work, it's quite enjoyable.

At the time of writing this review, I spent less than 2 hours playing and completing this game, and those 75 minutes really were all I needed to rush to write my first Steam review. TLDR: Buy Before Your Eyes, play it, and sit with it. It's worth every second and dollar.

This game is masterful. It's an experience, which I think should be the essence of a great game. Not just collecting achievements or running the gamut of a labyrinthian plot. It's a story that you become invested in and truly live. The blinking integration at first was mildly frustrating. I'm a completionist and didn't want to miss a second of dialogue or content. But as the game presses on, you aren't penalized for what you miss. It is, in fact, the point of the game. It serves as a living memory, which is fallible and you miss things. Whatever I miss would later be reconstituted with other memories, more meaningful ones, and by the end of the game I was in tears (which made not blinking thankfully easier. I gotta know if the devs intended for that.)

Some other kudos are owed to the game and character design. It's uniquely its own, harkening back to polygon days which brings on an added level of nostalgia. The voice acting is convincing and sincere. The plot is believable and completely enraptures you. I wish I had something negative to say, but I don't. That's how good Before Your Eyes is.

Some people play games to escape. I know I do. This game brings you face to face with that which many of us try to escape: pressure to succeed or become something grander than we are, to make the most of our time, to bring love into our worlds, but feeling like we'll never be enough. At first it's horrifying. But Before Your Eyes is ever so gentle. I'll stop waxing poetic, because I'm not doing it justice. It's emotional, but worth the price of admission. Please support this game. You'll be better for it.
