I am enjoying the game so far. I will say I was caught off guard by 2 major things from the very start of the game but I don't think they're a bad thing since if you're a fan/player of the original it shouldn't be that much of a drastic change. I actually welcome it considering I get to enjoy Isaac's reactions a bit more. As a remake so far definitely feels it was remade for a slight original experience and I look forward to finishing the rest of the way and see what else they might've altered along the way.

Besides the problems of disconnects from servers in the beginning of the Beta I have seen improvements as time progressed. Gameplay feels satisfying and emphasizes a lot into teamplay in this hack and slash shooter. I've leveled my psycher and ogryn to 30 while my sharpshooter is sitting at 25 all them so far feel nice and entertaining to use. A good array of weapons to match your style and give me that good dopamine hit whenever I cut, bash, crush, shoot or blow up heretics in the path of me and my team. I do like that this game does not hold your hand on the higher difficulties especially when the game starts to spawn a lot of elites/specialists to overwhelm your squad. Your supposed to be a team of outcasts used as cannon fodder to hopefully complete your objective not a bunch of known badasses that can tackle any situation. Just makes those victories feel more gratifying when you defeat all the odds and survive all the crazy onslaught the game throws at you in the higher difficulty. Visuals look great to me. I actually feel like I'm inside all those art pieces you see of Warhammer 40k and it really is amazing how the maps look I usually find myself stopping for a moment to take in the sights of the different areas. Music matches well with the game that you'd expect with a warhammer game title ominous, chilling, blood pumping and high tempo for those intense moments in combat. Cosmetics I do like that you have to complete challenges to unlock the cooler looking pieces of gear to show off your hard work with some optional ones that you can get with in game currency. I am aware of the cash shop one as well, but to be honest I didn't really let that bother me considering that I was just having too much of a fun time just playing the game itself. A lot of the good outweighs the issues that I've faced personally, but I can't speak for everyone on that front since I am also aware other players definitely had harder times with losing connections or frame rate issues. Hopefully as the game continues that we all will see more and more improvements like I did during the beta. I hope to see more of you rejects join in on the fun and help curb stomp more heretics.

A very addicting game with a pretty interesting twist onto your typical fantasy dungeon adventuring genre. Being put into uncomfortable positions and can have your party completely destroyed physically or mentally. Shows off the darker side for adventurers obstacles and horrible fates that can befall them. Much respect for the player base that help the community with guides/tips to achieve whatever goal your striving for in this game. Hope you give this game a try and beat the darkness that lurks in these horrible unforgiving areas and "claim your birth right."

The game itself feels pretty spot on when it comes to the game's mechanics and straightforward objective for players to complete. Murder your quarry while staying alive from your hunter. Many games like "Bloody Good Time" and "The Ship" never got the player bases they deserved sadly and unfortunately that is really the main and only issue I have personally with this game. The gameplay itself is simple and pretty fun, but the game can only offer so much since most of the time you'll be stuck playing with BOTS that really won't pose much of a threat. However, if you can get a handful of friends to play along you can find yourselves having some laughs and a wonderful time. I'm not gonna leave a thumbs down for the game merely not having enough players because it pulled off what it was going for. Silly cartoon styled murdering chaotic fun for players to enjoy that has pretty decent graphics to look at and is pretty satisfying to look at while playing with the character designs and maps as well. Wait for a sale or maybe get some friends together and give the game a try. I do hope players games like these a try and find themselves having a enjoyable time.

Man the game returning sure feels nice and better yet it's FREE! Updating this review since there's been some changes to Last Year. Biggest change is the new development team and simple balance patch. Changes are expected to happen again at a later date.

Mainly addressing potential new players and what they should expect if they plan on giving the game a spin. The game itself first and foremost is NOT like Dead by Daylight when it comes to gameplay. The game is an asymmetrical horror versus game, but it's gameplay is more similar to a game like Left 4 Dead's versus mode. Survivors (aka students) are put into a 5 player team versus 1 player that takes control of playing as 3 different fiends over the course of the match. The game is more of a battle of attrition with both sides trying to dwindle the opposition down to gain the upper hand during key moments of the match.

Gameplay :Last Year is not a horror game that consists of the simple trope of hide and seek while survivors traverse doing objectives. The students are expected to search for resources called scrap in order to make items and weapons to combat against the player who's playing as the Fiend in order to contest for the objectives. When I say craft I'm not talking about how other titles like VHS employ it by running to a crafting table in order to make something. Students that have the needed amount of scrap can craft on the spot to craft so you can freely move around while scrapping as you traverse the map. All students play the same but what makes them differ from one another is their funny personalities, dependent on what "class," they play as and what "spells" they're using for the match. There is currently 4 classes to choose from and each job can have at max 2 per class so you can have 2 per role. You can take the role as an Assault, Technician, Medic and Scout where each one carries a different primary they carry at all times and each role have different crafting menus with different items and weapons to craft using scrap. When playing as students there's no such thing as a one on one fights with the Fiend because students are naturally more fragile than the fiend and require actual weapons in order to harm them and heavily depend on teamwork to keep each other safe or make objective plays. Dying is something you'll need to get used to a lot especially when you're new playing as students but dying doesn't mean the match is over for you. When a student is killed they are then given a respawn timer that increases with more and more deaths you accumulate. When your timer is up you will be awaiting rescue at a rescue closet like Left 4 Dead. Students want to use their items, weapons and numbers to their advantage to keep pressure against the Fiend. Maps are all different with their own hazards and specific objectives in order to progress forward. Rushing objectives alone however is not always the best strategy to do especially when you're new. Students that are inexperienced should expect to lose quite a lot since there's more in depth game maneuvers that the tutorials don't explain. The rest of the learning is when your experiencing actual matches. Try not to use dead by daylight like methods of playing or you'll find the experience to be annoying and frustrating because like I said the game's gameplay more relates to left 4 dead than Dead by Daylight like games.

Playing as the Fiend is a different experience for players since you have to take control of 3 characters that are not an unstoppable force that can't be hurt or killed. Fiend players want to play very defensively especially when put against more experienced players. Fiends can be injured as well like their opposition and can be taken out if they aren't careful about their approach. Before starting a match you will have to choose 3 out of the 4 available fiends to use during the match forcing you to leave out 1 fiend from your loadout called your "Fiend Deck." While playing you want to aggressively trapping and ambushing students to keep them on their toes. However, the name of the game is OBJECTIVES so as a Fiend you want to play for the objective over kills. Fiends achieve victory by either eliminating the entire student team which is sometimes harder to do against experienced players or stalling out the timer during the match since all matches have 15 minutes for students to use in order to escape. Recklessly picking fights with no set ups or an escape plan you will learn very quickly that you do not regenerate health (except for your shield or help with a spell) and will waste more health and time since students are more agile than you and can outrun you easily. You don't chase students you ambush them and defend objectives. Each fiend have a main ability which is their biggest source of damage and a utility ability which can help engage or disengage combat. Each fiend differ in stats and characteristics that can be stronger to play in certain areas of the map than another fiend. When you select your first fiend to play in the match you cannot switch characters until you die. You can despawn yourself into what's called "Predator Mode," which makes you invisible to students and are able to traverse the map incredibly fast. You can only set up traps while in predator mode and you can only despawn when no other student has line of sight with you and vice versa for spawning in. Embrace that you're a dangerous ambushing stalker not an immortal being similar to like playing the infected from Left 4 Dead using strategic ambushing to your strategy over brute force all the time.

Bugs: YES big warning like in my last review there is still bugs in the game, but the new devs are working on the issues. I will never deny that this game is far from perfect. Some examples of certain bugs are related to crippled movement for your character sometimes depending on certain interactions with students and the fiend, certain spells not working sometimes or not at all and specific glitched spots that can get you stuck or move through that was not intended. There is probably some I've missed but these are just some examples.

Can't Launch?: An underlying problem I haven't been able to learn the cause of for some players. Some suggest it's probably a hardware issue than a game issue but the devs are looking into it regardless. Just wanted to address this for those wanting to indulge their curiosity and giving the game a try.

Recommend?: Yes I do. The game is fun once you get used to the flow of things. Please keep in mind this game is still being worked on by Undaunted Games when it had to be abandoned by the old dev team. I still see the potential in the game and many others in the discord community. The game is gonna progress at a snail's pace since the new team is small but are working on fixing issues of the game before progressing forward with it.

New Content?: The new devs are focusing on fixing the game's issues that were left behind before flushing out new content that would most likely not work and possibly break the game. The new devs are passionate about wanting the game to succeed, but the reality is that it's gonna be a moment since they're having to learn the coding for the game since it's not their own and needing to fix the issues that have existed since the last dev team owned the game. I understand the frustration of wanting something new all the time to keep yourself interested but with the circumstances that the game is currently in it will happen in the future just not the immediate future.

The most boring concept i have ever experienced i get the whole idea is to the last man standing but to just wait. Go into a lobby wait more. Then wait on a plance. Then wait to land and hopefully find a weapon and maybe get a kill or just die and repeat. Honestly its not for me but i like to actually get a chance to play instead of dying before 1 occasional kill. Bad game for me maybe for someone else who has too much time to repeat this over and over a lot
