A very competent remake of the first Yakuza game, using 0's updated engine. The combat and side activities that you knew and loved from the prequel will still be here and play as good as ever.

While not quite as dramatic as Yakuza 0 in terms of story, Kiwami still plays a very important and compelling role in Kiryu's tale. If you want to continue following his saga and don't mind doing more or less of the same, you won't be disappointed.

Potential Technical Issues:
For me, the game has had a tendency to crash every now and again, for periods ranging from 15 minutes after launch, or not at all until after a few hours into a session. Luckily, it's not too much of a problem as the game autosaves every time you complete a mission, earn a collectible, etc. However, it may be wise for you to back up a copy of your game save every several hours or so, just in case it ever decides to crap out during an autosave.
For those planning to use Xbox controllers, Steam's built-in controller configuration or other user-created fixes may be necessary in order to get the trigger buttons to work.

The Main Review:
Despite having been released over 10 years ago, I believe that the very first Assassin's Creed game still manages to hold up pretty well.

The combat and parkour mechanics are solid, and should be very familiar to those who've played the Ezio games - this doesn't feel like too much of a downgrade.

The game does a pretty good job of maintaining atmosphere in the cities that you visit, with their lively, vocal crowds and detailed building designs, on top of the game's beautiful soundtrack and decent graphics (for the time).

If you're interested in experiencing the story of Desmond Miles and Altair, and are looking to play the title that kickstarted the franchise, then the Steam Director's Cut edition is the best place to go, as it adds a couple of new mission formats that weren't present in the console releases.

While the game's story has some slightly awkward pacing, and while the locations, mission types, and combat mechanics aren't nearly as varied as they are in the later games, Assassin's Creed 1 is truly a unique experience. The main, high-profile assassination missions in this game were very engaging to play with great thriller-like setups - and as such were some of my favorites in the franchise.

8/10

Excellent game with...

-Addictive brawler combat
-Loads of mini-games
-Many sidequests that'll have you laughing your ass off
-And a main story that'll drive you to tears

If not my favorite, then one of my favorite RPGs / beat-em-ups of all time.

An excellent game that is akin to Super Smash Bros. and other similar arena-style, platforming fighting games. Its large roster of characters, each with their own unique movesets, will keep you hooked, whether you are casual or ranked matches

The roles you get can range from getting hanged as soon as possible to attempting to survive the whole game.
