TL:DR summary - while RE:2 is still my favourite of the remakes, RE:4 is one of the greatest games of its generation and the remake does not disappoint in any way. Some of the puzzles have been lightly streamlined, and some of the level design and order of set pieces have been changed but almost every major fight has been recreated with an astonishing level of detail. More information is provided about the various characters and side characters are given more space in the plot and more to do. If you never played the original, you /must/ give this game 20 hours of your life. If, like me, you spent an embarrassing amount of time with the original game there's both nostalgia and surprises here for you that are well worth the money.

As a level of full disclosure, I have played the remake to completion once at this point and have finished the original Resident Evil 4 close to 20 times.

Pros:
- Much of the classic elements of the original game have been left the same. All the old puzzles you remember are still in there, but modernized slightly
- Voice acting is massively improved from the original. Although there are campy elements that I miss from the original, Ashley, Luis, and Ada are all significantly improved - Leon is about the same but has more dialogue generally, all his "cool guys don't look at explosions" one-liners remain in the game.
- Visuals are flawless
- A lot of the backtracking has been removed
- Leon does approximately 3-4 more unnecessary back-flips than he does in the original

Cons:
- Some of the puzzle sections simplified out of existence
- Game overall is more tightly organised into a straight line - handholds you through the puzzles in a way that RE:2 doesn't
- In-game currency largely useless
- The guy who voices Salazar no longer refers to Leon by his middle name as "Mr. Scott" anymore
