I typically hate roguelikes, but this game is unbelievably addicting and clever. I'm shocked how I can keep finding new Jokers that are useful and inventive. 1000% recommend.

I had nothing but trouble with this game on Linux. The Linux port crashes immediately when you try and launch it. If you instead try the Windows version under Proton, that does load... at 800x600. When you try and change the resolution, the game completely freezes. Upon reloading, the resolution change did stick, but the game immediately froze when I started a new game and reached the first loading screen. I gave up at this point and got a refund.

I enjoyed this game for the most part. It plays a lot with the idea of perspective and has some clever puzzles based around similarly related concepts. They vary the puzzle room aesthetics just enough to keep it interesting, although if you're hoping for a deep plot, it's not really there, compared to something like Portal. The trailers do a good job showing off the types of puzzles you'll be doing, and there are some rather cleverly designed ones, so if that looks interesting to you, you'll probably like this.

It took me a little over 2 hours to finish. I think the game is worth it, but I would also probably wait for a sale if you're interested.

I really don't recommend this game. First off, as others have said, it's not a Metroidvania. They've taken level bits and pieces of level designs from Castlevania games and strung them together so it looks like a Metroidvania, but it's completely linear. The gameplay is very floaty and imprecise, it's incredibly short (<1 hour to complete), they literally take some enemy sprites from Symphony of the Night, and the plot is basically non-existent. I'm not really into anime that much, so maybe people don't mind it, but the voices are horrible. They're incredibly high pitched and grating on the ears.

It's a game that looks good in trailers, but isn't very fun when you're actually playing it. There are so many better Metroidvanias on Steam these days, I can't recommend this one.

I don't particularly care for roguelikes, but this game is just so much fun. It's a great mix of 2D shooting with actual Chess strategy.

I've played several Final Fantasy games in the past, as well as other PS1-era Square games, but I had never played Final Fantasy IX until now. Simply put, I was really blown away by it and it might be my new favorite entry in the Final Fantasy series.

For one, the graphics look really good. All of the assets have been given a higher resolution remaster and they look really great, both the player models and the backgrounds. There were a handful of minor textures that I could point out that had been overlooked, but 99% of them looked excellent. As a new player, the plot is very clear and easy to follow (something I couldn't really say for other PS1 Square games like Chrono Cross). Everything the characters did made sense and fit into the story. I also really liked their dynamics and how many of them developed over the course of the game.

The combat is a pretty standard affair. It's very similar to some of the earliest FF games, so if you were hoping for some interesting new twist in its mechanics, you aren't going to get one. However, it's very solid and easy to grasp, which is beneficial to allowing you to experiment and learn what works best for you.

Any issues I have with the game are pretty minor. I didn't really care for the villain, although they did pick up in interest as the game went on. I also really didn't care for the optional card game, but they only force you to play it a handful of times, otherwise you can safely ignore it. I highly recommend this game to any FF fans or anyone looking for a fun JRPG game to play.

River City Girls has a lot going for it. The graphics are really great, the soundtrack is excellent, and it has a very high quality overall. The pixel art style is reminiscent of old-school beat 'em up games, but it's high detailed enough to clearly be able to determine what is happening, and it looks excellent. I was very excited when I saw the first trailer to pick it up. The dialog can be a bit cheesy, but it's voice acted well enough, and wasn't that big of a deal for me.

Unfortunately, I'm going to not recommend this game for one simple reason, it's not fun to play. I loved pretty much everything about this game except for its gameplay, which I found really tedious and sloppy. Every single enemy in this game is a damage sponge. Even the most basic grunt takes ages to defeat, on the order of 20+ hits. You unlock additional moves both by leveling up and by purchasing them at the shop, which is a mechanic that I personally didn't care for, although it might not bother some people. I'm about 3 hours into this game at this point and have seen maybe 3 health items total, that restore maybe 1/3 of your health. They instead expect you to buy health items from one of the way too many stores, but there really isn't enough money given to the player to spend between both health items and buying more moves. The shops also don't tell you what the items actually do until you buy them, which means you'll often spend a good deal of your money on an item you have no use for. Fortunately, the death penalty is very kind, you lose a bit of cash, but only have to restart at the beginning of your current room. There's also a lot of required backtracking, and when it's not fun to fight any of the enemies, it really begins to grind down on you.

It's a shame, this game has a lot going for it, but the more I played it the more I simply wanted to be done. If you're looking for a good beat 'em up time, I'd recommend checking out Streets of Rage 4 instead, you'll have a much better experience.

Early Access Review
This is not a video game in the traditional sense. There are no levels, there are no objectives, there is nothing here except clicking on a grid to place an additional section of a building. Despite that, this game is fantastic.

The game was released in a rather rough state, but to give Square credit they fixed all of the issues. They removed the bad filter, replaced the bad font, added the ability to change keybindings, and more. It's now a fine port of the best game ever made.
