Unforgettable visual style, minimalist yet masterful sound design, and also some very tasty apples. Overall, 36/36 apples. I can't wait for the sequel, 37 apples (please).

Early Access Review
it already has the magic of the original game yet it feels more refined, and it just launched in early access. who knows how good it will be at launch! I've only run into one bug the entire time, which wasn't game breaking. otherwise, fantastic experience. the only thing that I don't like is that there are no more classes planned between now and 1.0, albeit, that is fair considering 1.0 launch is in q2

don't be worried about the whole early access thing, they already have a realistic roadmap and they know what they're doing. I did dd2 early access and I think they did a great job. even if you don't like the early access model, the game has tens of hours content in its current state, which is pretty good imo

The game is very good and I would highly recommend it if you enjoyed the predecessor and maybe even if you didn't. It improves all systems including combat and is very open, unlike the original. However, the port is AWFUL and fundamentally does not work unless you mod it and follow one of the performance/crash fix guides on the workshop. It still will not work too great after all that. There aren't really any current-gen alternatives except the xbox one/one x/series version, which have no problems and higher res cutscenes BUT they're locked at 30 fps regardless of if you're on one x/series x. PC is still a solid, playable alternative after the many fixes, with much better keyboard and mouse support. You may actually be able to go into this one after watching a summary video of the original, as it is rather disconnected anyway and fundamentally a lot more connected to lightning returns than FFXIII alone.

TL;DR:
- Better storytelling than FFXIII (you can actually get the full story without reading datalogs, a SHOCKING new innovation /s)
- Some of the best, most refined yet innovative combat, systems, and progression in any jrpg
- Open areas and systems with little handholding, which, while fundamentally better, can get a bit confusing
- TERRIBLE PORT without mods

Ziggurat + Rogue Legacy + random redneck stereotypes + egyptian mythology

this is the combination I didn't know I wanted but I'm just gonna say it's fun as hell

This is one of those "die miserably and start all over" type games like rogue legacy except with more in-depth combat and well guns and randomized loot. I think it's awesome, and the visual style is great, especially with the most recent update

doesn't even feel like early access. risk of rain is, frankly, amazing in 3D. Online play is fantastic, especially considering it's an early access title coming from a three person indie team. Classes are unique and a blast to play.

UPDATE: with the new content updates this game just keeps getting better and I would HIGHLY recommend, even moreso than at launch
