While I haven't been following the whole Devil May Cry series, I really enjoyed the fourth game when it first came out for PC and fell in love with the visual style, the cheesy character dialogues and the Japanese story.
So when I saw the first few images and videos of the DMC reboot I was... disappointed. Just like many others.

But having finished the game now, I can stay rested. This game is not just an evolution of the series, it's a major improvement in every single area, with easy-to-grasp combat systems that are also difficult to master, charming characters that grow up on you and, most impressively, level design that rates among the top ones I've ever seen in a game.

The levels keep dynamically changing around you in a way that makes the Limbo world where you play in most of the time a living, breathing place, which is ironic considering that it's the demon world. Some of the levels are such visual feasts that it makes you wonder how much time it took developer Ninja Theory to put those together. And the game just keeps throwing new material at you so that you never get bored too quickly of one environment.

The gameplay is as fast-paced as a Devil May Cry game should be. The only issue I have with it is that sometimes you end up aiming at the wrong enemy because of the lack of a proper lock-on system. And with most of the fights consiting of multiple enemies of different kinds surrounding you, some of them that need to be attacked with specific weapons, this quickly becomes an issue.

Otherwise the game makes you really feel that if you die, it was your fault, and not some cheap death artficially created by the developer to make the game harder.

All in all, a must buy if you liked the previous games, and a very recommended title for those looking for a fast-paced action game.
