I've been playing CS since 2001, always approaching it from a technical perspective. My settings are meticulously fine-tuned to strike the perfect balance between speed and precision for my hand. This takes into account my forearm length, grip style, and overall playstyle. However, the challenge lies in the in-game settings menu, where sensitivity can only be adjusted to two decimal places. For example, with 400 DPI, a sensitivity of 1.91 results in an eDPI of 764, while 1.92 gives 768. To fine-tune eDPI and align it perfectly with your natural hand movement, you need a precision of 1/10. This is why it's essential to create an autoexec.cfg file and set your sensitivity value there.

Fun fact: The average eDPI of the world's top 10 CS2 players in 2023 was 764.8. For example:

- s1mple: 1236 eDPI
- donk: 1000 eDPI
- m0NESY: 920 eDPI
- XANTARES: 920 eDPI
- ZywOo: 780 eDPI
- SNAX: 768 eDPI
- ropz: 708 eDPI
- NiKo: 616 eDPI

Understanding eDPI and SRAV
eDPI (effective DPI) is the product of your mouse sensitivity multiplier and the physical DPI (dots per inch) of your sensor. A higher DPI makes your cursor move faster and, in theory, more precise. However, in practice, another crucial factor comes into play: SRAV (Smoothness-Related Accuracy Variance).

SRAV determines sensor tracking precision, especially during fast, dynamic movements—exactly the kind of flicks and adjustments required in FPS games. What's important to note is that SRAV varies depending on DPI settings. Some mice achieve their lowest SRAV at 400 DPI, others at 800 or 1600 DPI.

For instance, if you use a Razer DeathAdder V3 and want an eDPI of 1000, the lowest SRAV is achieved at 1600 DPI—almost twice as low as at 400 DPI or anything higher than 1600. This means that for maximum precision, it's best to set the sensor to 1600 DPI and in-game sensitivity to 0.625 (1600 × 0.625 = 1000).

If someone thinks an error margin of 0.1% or 0.2% is insignificant, they should remember that in Counter-Strike, small details matter. Situations like aiming down Long on Dust2, mid on Inferno, or Banana can determine whether you land a headshot—or miss entirely.

Mouse Sensor Evolution
Ten years ago, a good gaming mouse had an SRAV of 0.25–0.3%. Today, solid models have around 0.1%, while the absolute best—such as the Logitech™ G PRO X Superlight 2, currently considered the world's best mouse—have an SRAV of 0. For 400 DPI, this mouse is literally flawless, which explains why nearly all top players use it or its predecessor, now regarded as the second-best mouse in the world.
