it's cyberpunk ace attorney, to lead off. it's a visual novel based around defending your clients' innocence, or at least episode 0 was.

a lot of visual novels like these live or die on their writing, and i've played quite a few that struggle with that. i am extremely pleased to report that of the devil nails it. the writing is snappy, paced well, and the characters have quirks and specifics to how they speak and interact with each other that individualize them without getting overly annoying. the soundtrack and audio effects perfectly help accentuate what's happening, and the visual design is incredibly good.

the plot itself for episode 0 is fairly standard - a "solve the mystery" but a lot of stuff is twists i'd expect - but that's perfectly fine for a teaser to get people hooked into the game. where it grabbed me was the actual Twist at the end of ep 0. that alone has made me scream a recommendation to all of my visual novel friends. i am extremely hooked now and will be taking this wild ride.

banger metroidvania. the grapple hook is one of the more inventive ways i've seen of doing a grapple in games, and the bosses are fairly satisfying once you figure out their patterns/get some of the more broken upgrades. got 100% of collectibles and got every ending except the joke one

as a non shmupper it was a pretty fine game, and the vn parts of it were decent. i would not recommend this over a danganronpa, but if you're looking for a fairly chill vn with some decent shmup action sprinkled in between, check it out

I think this still holds up! You can play a suave superspy, an idiot aggressive bozo, or anything in between. I stayed true to Mina the whole time, and while there wasn't much at the end it paid off. Also, it turns out Chain Shot + Brilliance is just kind of broken on bosses.

yeah this game is pretty decent

sometimes i feel sad but when i can log onto arena and absolutely dumpster a mono-red aggro player by playing mono-blue aggro i feel better about myself
