I didn't know I needed a survival/crafter/base-builder that was heavily inspired by Half-Life 1, but here we are. And I love it. The hand-crafted world is beautiful and interesting, the crafting is fun, and everything just works. It's great just try it.

It's a fun resource manager and city builder. There's a lot of clever mechanics here and you have to think fairly strategically about your resources because if you mess up, there may not be a run of runway before all of your beavers die off.

The two factions are quite different and it's nice seeing a lot of differentiation there.

Still, the game does feel like you can "solve" it fairly quickly and without a campaign or some reason to play other than some new maps, you kind of wander off sooner than you might want to.

It's the kind of game that unless you know literally every mechanic (there are a LOT of them and they don't make them easy to know), you're basically ineffective and will have a very bad time playing it.

Half of this game is really baked and beautiful and wants to be something really deliberate and precise. And the other half of the game hasn't even been put in the oven yet. There's just a lot of mechanics and things that happen and nobody knows why and the game doesn't bother allowing you a way to actually figure out what's going on until after it occurs. You're just constantly surprised by things and it's frustrating.

For something that really wants to be based on a board game, they completely wiffed. It's a board game for rules lawyers in all the worst kinds of ways.

(Also the price is bonkers, lol wtf were they thinking)

It's a good game; don't get me wrong. The mechanic is clever, the discussions are powerful, and the art is outstanding.

Yet the pacing is weird. It starts slow, and by the time you get used to the mechanic of creating/curating cards, you're basically over the fortune phase of the game. And then the endgame appears and it's just far too fast.
