Graphically superior to previous MoW games but gameplay and mechanics are 100x less fun than MoWAS2.

Where do I start.

When I saw this announced, it was like Christmas day. I was playing Men of War Assault Squad 2 (MoWAS2) with some mods and I was so happy, I would get a whole new game, in the same franchise of MoWAS2 but now with the interesting cliché of the Cold War. I thought this would be the next big hit in the franchise after the troubled and horrid release of Call to Arms, a game that was Modern Day and a successor to MoW in name and developer and nothing else. That game was awful and the way they treated the community was terrible.

But back to this game. This game is NOT Men of War Assault Squad 2. This game, is Call to Arms. The engine is nearly identical which is somehow a step back from MoWAS2. The UI is a direct copy of Call to Arms, (my first sign of danger), then I tried to play campaign as the Soviets. The whole adding unit cards is good in other games like AirLand or Total War, but for this game, super annoying. The units available cannot do much against the enemies who immediately pump out Vehicles much like the US did IRL

Then there's the units themselves. If I told you, that this was a Cold War game, what do you imagine? Take a few seconds.
Did you think of Soviet soldiers charging with AKs and T-55s, BTRs, Americans with M16s and Walker Bulldogs. Now what if I told you the units in the game are M1 Garands for the US. This would make sense if it was RIGHT after WW2, but no, the US Squad Leader has M16s. The only person to get them is the SL. This was introduced in 1964 for Vietnam. The US by that time in the 50s were using M14s, NOT M1s. Then we have the USSR and Warsaw Pact. The AK-47, Staple of the Soviet Union and used in many countries. Now, only 1 man in a Squad on the USSR gets an AK-47. The SL. The other men under his command? SVT-40s and SKS'. Which, is NOT how this worked in real life. By the time of 1950, nearly every Soviet solider was using an AK-47 as it was formally adopted, meanwhile the US were still using M14s, soon to be phasing to the M16 during Vietnam.

So why only one man with these awesome weapons? Balance. Awful, terribly integrated Balance. It would be too OP for a whole squad of Soviets to hold and objective while the Americans charge in with tanks and M14s. You know what would make sense? Giving each of the soldiers these Assault rifles. Did you know the Background image for this game has Soviet soldiers holding AKs? Interesting isn't it.

I'm actually getting pretty heated and even more disappointed thinking about this more so I'll stop for now and if anyone cares, address more issues.

TL;DR:
This isn't MoWAS2, this is Call to Arms, the devs sorta just took the name of the MoW franchise because they know CtA doesn't make mone.
The units are awfully stocked.
The fact you assign cards to selected "Waves" is a whole guessing game in itself because you have a max manpower that is about 2 cards worth.
The time period of this needs a clear direction
This SHOULD have been a clone of MoWAS2 but with new units, but it's not

TL;Dr pt2 This isn't the Men of War I know. This is Call to Arms, and nothing in common with it's namestake. Do not buy if you don't like CtA or you miss the glory that was Men of War Assault Squad 2.

Took 4 hours to get from Pearl Harbour to Hokkaido. Then was told to engage 3 Japanese Imperial warships on my first mission. Panicked, dived, and went to silent runnings to avoid detection. Got ran over by a Yamato-class battleship and lost all hands.

11/10 great fantastic game. Would recommend.

Visually, this game is beautiful. It's use of shading really helps and fits with the noir-style of story. Storywise, this game is fantastic. Inspired by the popular comic series "Fables", the story is set before the comics. And the story is fantastic. The characters are interesting, well animated and have a deep backstory, inspired by the Fables they're based off. I would seriously recommend this game to anyone who enjoys drama, suspense and noir-inspired storys. 10/10 would play again.
