Well, I have literally waited more than half my life since the release of Half-Life: Episode Two to finally have another Half-Life game see the light of day. But damn, it was well worth the wait!

This game is nothing short of an absolute masterpiece! No other game I have played so far was able to give me the kind of experience that this game gives.

  • The game is absolutely beautiful, even on low settings on my GTX 1070 the game looks stunning
  • The level of interactivity is mind-boggling, it is really fun to play with the environment and the props laying around in it
  • Headcrabs and other in-game monsters are absolutely terrifying
  • Combat is intense and the weapons feel really satisfying to use
  • Story is amazing

Is it worth to invest in a VR headset of one thousand dollars? To me and dedicated Half-Life fans it definitely is! I think this is a must-have experienced game if you do have a VR headset. It shows the potential of the platform.

Even for people who cannot invest one thousand dollars, lower budget headsets are available, with tailored support for this game by the developers. I do recommend if possible to get Index controllers, as these controllers feel very intuitive to use and have finger tracking which is a very nice detail.

Also much appreciation to all of the accessibility settings that Valve added. I tried BONEWORKS before Half-Life: Alyx came out, but since I practically had no VR experience I got nauseous within sometimes minutes. The teleport options in Half-Life: Alyx make this game very comfortable and allowed me to play for multiple hours very quickly.

This is definitely a good game to get some “VR legs” and experience, as you can gradually increase to more continuous movement options and features.

Altogether, this shows that Valve can still create amazing games that define the new industry standard. The only thing I sincerely hope is that I would not have to wait another half of my life to experience the next follow-up game in the Half-Life universe.

Thank you Valve for creating and actually releasing this game! It means a lot to all the Half-Life fans!
