was a bit underwhelming and too quick for my tastes, but was fun nonetheless. the new designs look nice (especially gwen herself) and the new tidbits of lore have enough substance for my mind to chew on. first time in awhile i had to think about strategy in bossfights, and they were tough eggs to crack. (PS - all of the awkward platforming is easily cheesed, and every enemy can be lured off of the platforms ;] )

I LOVE THE SILLY LITTLW SCRUNKLY CREAYURES THEY HAVE MY HEART

this game never gets old. its less about completing the game and more about the experience doing so. climbing around the world with good ol BUD and finding new ways to find every collectible is where the fun is at. plus, MOMs dialogue is funny and sweet

SO. ive gone through the first two chapters. gonna be writing a review based off of that! non spoiler and spoiler versions. spoiler ver. wont have too many exact details but game mechanics and characters may be spoiled. they might not be completely accurate but they can help those who want to get into the game start it.

non-spoiler part of the review

i think that the game is very fun! this is my first time playing a game like this, and its easy to learn, even on hard mode. the battle mechanics are taught to you seamlessly, the only clunky parts imo being on tutorial signs in the beginning, which is a nitpick more than a criticism. the spy feature is also helpful, especially for those who need it, but things it shows can be noticed after playing through the battle if you want to take the risk. (trial and error basically, its more interesting/fun than it sounds, imo anyways).

i usually get turned off from these kinds of games due to dying mechanics but here they made it less prominent. its basically an encouragement to try again which is very helpful (i have depression and anger issues so this may be emphasized a little, but my point still stands!). it also gives you the option to start over from multiple different points which is great! it helps with strategy development for bosses and other harder enemies. the game can be frustrating in other areas, but stepping away for a moment or looking for a guide works just fine.

spoiler part of the review

the characters and story are proving to be great so far! vi, kabbu, and leif are already one of my favorite dynamics out of media so far, theyre one liner machines that can still be emotional when they need to be. vi is a rebel bee thats tired of everyone's bs, and it looks like her character arc is going in a direction to turning her from a brat into a selfless hero, which im excited for! kabbu is very kind and caring, and seems to be keeping it together quite nicely, but there are hints to him having some hardships. and leif is mysterious but still pretty funny when his origins arent the focus, being quiet AND blunt (even more blunt than vi, who has absolutely no filter at this point in the game). chapter 1 was decent, the bosses and enemies were fun to fight, and chapter 2 is infinitely better. the zasp and mothiva fight was fun to figure out, theyre really tough on hard mode. same for venus' guardian. a lot of thought is required for them (specific recipes and food items in my case). oh, and the recipe system? its great, well thought out, and fun. even when knowing what you make, the fun chefs you run into are very charming and make the experience feel special. the animation is the main thing behind that. i used a guide so i missed the discovery process, but im sure thatd be even more fun than looking at a list.

my only complaint for this game is that sometimes, its hard to tell what youre supposed to do. not much direction is given outside of dialogue and ive had to wander around until i accidentally stumble into the story. it might just be me, but id look out for that yourself.

i recommend this game immensely to those who are interested!
