PS1-styled psychological horror. Not terribly long but definitely spooky at times as you experience a slow descent into madness.

The PS1 era feel of the graphics was spot on. There is some funny dialogue between some of the characters, and a nice sprinkling of corporate/capitalist sci-fi dystopia.

Fast-paced 4-player co-op action. Amazing fun with friends and randos, with an incredibly strong community behind it and amazing dev support. This game plays a lot like a movie in that there are so many cinematic and hilarious moments as you blast your way through swarms of bugs or hordes of robots. I can't recommend this game enough. Easy contender for GOTY 2024.

You can earn in-game currency easily so there's no need to spend extra money on micro-transactions if you don't want to. Old cosmetics remain available to purchase after new content is released so there is no FOMO. This game is what Starship Troopers wanted to be.

Duke Nukem style boomer shooter. Rather than having ammo pickups, the enemies can only be defeated with certain guns, more of which unlock as you progress. This keeps levels cleaner, allowing you to focus on the pixel artwork and play style rather than hoarding ammo for the super powerful weapons vs. using it. The sprite work and pixel art are top notch, with a great nostalgic soundtrack. The writing is funny, coupled with the many video game references and pop-culture spoofs make this a game worth playing. The game is rather easy, even on the hardest difficulty, but that doesn't make it not-worth-playing. People have definitely been sleeping on this game. I am excited for FPS2.

Beautiful walking simulator with light puzzle elements. They really nailed the cyberpunk/dystopian atmosphere. There are some small bugs but the time I played they are few and far between. A must play for cat lovers.

Easily one of the best entries in the series. Better than 7, it takes and expands on the story of Ethan Winters and how his story line ties in with all of the Umbrella Corp craziness we know and love. My jaw dropped when the reveal happened. Not many games have been able to elicit that kind of response from me recently. Highly recommend.

Halo took the Xbox and propelled it to success. I've been a Bungie fan since the early days of Macintosh gaming (yes, that was a thing back in the day... Halo was originally a Mac title only before Bungie's acquisition by Microsoft). While dated in some aspects, the original Halo trilogy has tons of charm and replayability. (I can't speak to Halo 4 as I still have yet to play it).

Most every gamer has fond memories of classic multiplayer maps like Blood Gulch and Hang 'Em High, crowded around a single tube TV accusing others of screen-looking, to the more fast paced action of Halo 2MP. These games hold up surprisingly well, with an epic score coupled with some really breathtaking vistas scattered throughout. There is something for everyone to love about these games, and every gamer should take the time to appreciate this timeframe in the evolution of first person shooters. Maybe some day I'll write a more comprehensive review, as I can talk at length about what each of the games meant to me growing up in the late 90's early 2000's, and how they influenced other shooters to come; but long story short: these games in the Master Chief Collection are worth every penny.
