Chances are if you're viewing my profile it's to find out why I refuse to buy anything infected with Denuvo after a forum post of mine you read. To stop the first assumption straight away, it's not because I want to pirate the games.

People really need to stop this "You don't like Denuvo so you're obviously just trying to pirate it" crap. As I've stated repeatedly in many forums, it is not about a performance hit or being unable to pirate any game. Given most of the games infected by this crapware are cracked and available to pirate anyway, this 'argument' falls apart almost straight away. Take Square Enix as an example, a company with such a sycophantic devotion to Denuvo they even add it to a free game ( https://steamproxy.net/steamstore/app/845070/The_Awesome_Adventures_of_Captain_Spirit/ ). Square Enix games are still infected years after being cracked. If I actually did want to pirate the games.... well, I would!

The main point Denuvo try to get forward when convincing publishers to add this crapware to their games is that it protects the critical initial sales window - i.e. if it takes 6 months to crack, the first 6 months are fully protected and people will buy the game instead of pirating it. Fair enough, so why not remove it in the next update after this and get many more sales from people like me?

Games like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided which are available on GOG without this crapware, and Just Cause 3 which has been superseded by Just Cause 4, have both been cracked years ago and been on sale for less than a couple of pounds repeatedly. Honestly, at this stage what is the point in pirating them?

I'd also like to be able to play games I've bought after publishers decide they can't be bothered supporting them. For everyone who says this will never happen, think back to SecuROM and GFWL.

I do have a number of games in my wishlist that are infected with Denuvo - these are all games that I will buy if (and only if) Denuvo is removed.

If people don't have a problem with Denuvo, I'm not going to criticise them for buying these games. I simply ask the same courtesy is extended in the other direction.

If anyone else would like to avoid supporting these anti-consumer practices, it's helpful to follow the "Denuvo Games" featured group in my profile. This will display a curator warning on the store page for all games that come with Denuvo, and also state those that have had it removed. Given this information is not always visible, this can help to avoid purchasing products until after Denuvo is removed.
