I nominated this game for the labor of love award in the 2022 Steam awards and I feel like I have to justify that.
The last few years have been pretty rough in terms of the game.
The performance went downhill when 1.30, or the Emperor DLC update, was released.
1.31, or the Leviathan DLC update, was an utter mess.
1.32 and 1.33 didn't really fix that much and had some new problems.

Things changed when the 1.34, or Lions of the North DLC update, was released.
The AI, which had been abysmal in previous patches, got a lot better at playing the game. Performance was improved. The mission trees included in the DLC are amazing, maybe a little too amazing.

All in all, the future of EU4 looks bright, brighter than it has in some time.

The game still has some problems, mind. The way Paradox treats the DLCs of this game as mandatory is really bad. I've understood that the DLC subscription is good, but I don't have experience with that.

A 2004 classic, that everyone has at least heard of. It's an amazing game for its time, but does it hold up today?

Story

The story has a lot more depth than you'd think for a GTA game. It's a story of grief, betrayal and revenge. It's a story of a family, and how they survive through the thick and thin. Even though some of the themes can be grim, the writing still makes you laugh.

Graphics

The graphics look like they belong in a Playstation 2 game, and that's because they do. The graphics are outdated, but what did you expect? It's a 2004 game. If you're bothered by the graphics, you can search for a graphics overhaul mod.

Gameplay

This game made a lot of innovations in terms of gameplay. This was the first GTA game that allowed you to vault over obstacles and move while crouched. If you've played GTA IV or V, the controls might feel a bit clunky in comparison, and some things are missing entirely, like the ability to take cover behind a wall and to blind shoot.

Conclusion

I'd say the game still holds up today, even if you've played the later ones. At the time San Andreas was considered to be a huge game, but GTA IV and V are probably larger than it. There's still loads of things to do, even if you only stick to the story missions. If you're interested in the game, I'd say give it a shot to see if you like it.

TL;DR
The story is decent, the graphics are outdated and the gameplay is a bit clunky. If you're still interested, try it. You might just find a game you love.
